Organization defends low rating of Adelson's record
The Democratic mayoral candidate says he puts no stock in the report.

Adelson(left) and Bartlett:
The voting record helps determine whether candidates really support creating jobs and growing our economy or just pretend, said a press release circulated by Bartlett.

Local and state business leaders on Monday defended the Research Institute for Economic Development's low scoring of Democrat mayoral candidate Tom Adelson's Oklahoma senate voting record.
The 2009 RIED Report rated Adelson a minus 4 of a possible 100.
RIED Chairman Larry Nichols, Devon Energy Corp. chairman, said it is the only statewide organization that objectively evaluates state legislators on how they vote on business, job and economic growth issues.
"The truth of that voting record helps us determine whether candidates for office really support creating jobs and growing our economy or just pretend," Nichols said in a press release circulated by Adelson's Republican opponent, Dewey Bartlett Jr.
Bartlett cited Adelson's low RIED rating last month on the day the two both revealed their economic development plans.
Adelson at the time said he doesn't place much stock in the RIED report and reiterated that Monday.
"Every Senate Democrat received an 'F' from the RIED report, and I put no credence whatsoever in the organization," he said.
"I received the endorsement of the National Federation of Independent Businesses, which is widely known at the 'voice of small business' and includes over 3,000 small Oklahoma businesses."
Several
local-based RIED officials also took up for the report, including Paula Marshall, the Bama Cos. chairwoman; Hans Helmerich, Helmerich & Payne president; and Larry Mocha, Air Power Systems president. All are registered Republicans, along with Nichols.
"Tom (Adelson) can't defend his voting record, so he chose to try and attack the integrity and credibility of this well-respected institution," Marshall said in the Bartlett-circulated press release.
Helmerich added in the release, "Voters are understandably tired of politicians that promise jobs on TV but actually vote in a manner that leads to fewer jobs in the real world."
Oklahoma Senate Democratic Leader Charlie Laster has sharply criticized the RIED Report, saying it is put together by Republican activists who give hundreds of thousands of dollars to Republican House and Senate members.
Laster also said the organization will not release the specific criteria by which they score legislators.
"They refuse to disclose their secret and subjective formula for their ratings so that their true Republican agenda will not be exposed," he said.
Adelson, Bartlett and independents Mark Perkins and Lawrence Kirkpatrick will appear on the Nov. 10 general election ballot.

Zzzzz... more politics as usual. Democrats -vs Republicans. And citizens suffer for this. We need a 3rd party.

This record reminds me of the shark in the movie Jaws.

With the national democrats looking at cap and tax, taxes and fees for not paying for employees health care, and increasing taxes on the wealthy( small business owners) can anyone not see the problem with voting for them?

Give me a break. This is laughable. Hopefully people are smart enough to spot a partisan group pretending to be independent. With that being said, I won't vote for either of them.

So...according to Adelson, RIED is the Oklahoma version of Soros backed MoveOn? Or ACORN? Or SEIU? etc, etc.?

There isn't enough Beer in all of Tulsa to make we vote for either Adelson or Bartlett, who both appear to be insane. Anyone who thinks that that the RIED is impartial and independent however clearly has a thinking problem...

REID picks bills that make one party look good and another look bad. AA lot of the bills they rate on are not economic issues.

During this campaign Adelson has proposed that City funds be used to subsidize housing. He also proposes that "creative ideas" needs to be used to come up with new avenues to tax Tulsans to fund new "entitlements" that he wants imposed such as the city paying for public heath care and city intervening in the public school system. Adelson's own people refer to him as Tulsa's Obama surrogate. These statements show that Adelson is anti-business and pro BIG government. Perkins agrees that new avenues of taxation needs to be explored. Only Bartlett has pledged "no new taxes" and his focus is on creating jobs and promoting small businesses in Tulsa.

Fascist like Dewey are anti business. They will support items such as higher fees for doing business with city hall. Lock the doors to city hall. We bureaucrats don't want citizens to see us loafing in our glass house. We see this in our current mayor, who doesn't give a fig for the plight of the small, independent merchant in Tulsa. But, a labor union? A school teacher? Just take it all; and raise taxes to pay for it. We need a third person, not necessarily a third party, and we have one. I will vote for Adelson.

The last concern anyone in Tulsa should have with regard to City Hall is economic development. The place is an utter organizational disaster. Better think about which of those two is accidentally bright enough to take the bull by the horns kicking out the political appointees with no compassion whatsoever and reestablishing a common sense reporting structure.
View from above.

"The financial health of the city is my first priority," he said. "I believe it is the fundamental responsibility of government to respect every taxpayer dollar by maximizing efficiency in every government function."
Perkins said the city needs to support "intelligent economic development initiatives" designed to increase revenues.
He said the city must improve code enforcement efforts, adopt a mixture of form- and use-based codes that allows responsible infill development, and become more user-friendly, especially in the permitting process.
"Permitting is frequently cumbersome and time-consuming, and to a business, time is money," he said. "We don't want to give anybody a reason to choose another municipality."

Tired of the negative attacks by Bartlett (who I originally thought wouldn't be bad for Tulsa), which seem to mask a lack of direction other than whatever lobbyists whisper in his ear. Although Bartlett is spouting slogans, what I'm hearing is that he won't stop large industrial businesses from overrunning neighborhoods.

Who the hell has ever heard of REID and is there a non- Republican on it.
This is just more Dewey third party mud slinging by Devon Energy, Utica Square & Helmerich & Payne's Helmerich and Bama Pie's Marshall.
REID should stand for Republican good old boys propaganda. Would love to hear how they come up for their votes.
I'm either voting Perkins or Adelson. I will not vote for Dewey and the Tulsa feudal system. Does anyone wonder why Dewey Bartlett wants to be Mayor of Tulsa? It worked for his dad, Sr. & he has his eyes on Inhofe's senate seat.

Dewey is such a good businessman that during a 15 year period where the S&P 500 increased by 255%, he was able to increase his own net worth 7%.

Take a look at the 40 or so bills that the ried report was based on and you may understand that they are poised to get Republicans elected. Almost every bill was authored by the Republican agenda, including bills to weaken public schools and giving more tax credit to big investor groups/corporations,etc.

OkeyDokey,
you might ought to do a little more research about the defintion of what a political "Progressive" is.
Here's one quote of "what a progressive is" from a leading Pregressive website:
• "You think it's wrong to allow individuals to accumulate wealth without limits, and that the highest incomes should be capped well before they begin to threaten community and democracy."
Sounds like socialism to me, doesn't it?
I thought that in America, any person has the right to pursue their income dreams.
I seriously doubt that Mark Perkins is a progressive.
However, District 4 City Councilor candidate Maria Barnes calls herself a "progressive", in her campaign mailouts.

Most of these comments are from morons who have never run a business, probably can't keep a good job and don't get why a guy like adelson who's voting record speaks louder than any commercial just doesn't get the value of being pro business for oklahoma. But what else would you expect: he's never had a real job, never run a real company and at this time has no business leading the city.
