Weekend Spotlight: Things happening in the Tulsa area

1. INDIE ART: FESTIVAL OPENS TONIGHT
Handmade accessories, candles, jewelry, clothing and even air fresheners will be on sale at the Indie Emporium, a festival of independent artists and crafters, set from 8 p.m. to midnight Friday and noon to 11 p.m. Saturday at Mathews Warehouse, 100 E. Brady St.
A fashion show featuring nothing but handmade apparel is set for 8 p.m. Saturday.
Make-and-take crafting tables, which let visitors create their own handmade items, will be open Saturday while supplies last.
An artists’ gallery will feature works from Christine Crowe, Caitlin Coughlin, Megan Dunbar, Heather Van Winkle, Hannah Phillips, G. Krysta Hamilton, Meredith Van Patten, Tori Butner, Natalie Moore and Tara Mason.
Vendors who’ll be selling items or providing information at Indie Emporium include Project 8256, amelia mae, Raggedy Pageant, Garden Deva, Mike and Mary Jewelry, Born 2 Bee Wild, Rubbish, Handmade by Holly, Dwelling Spaces and Frances + Lulu.
More vendors include Jemellia Hilfiger’s Jem Jam, Main Street House Plants, Weather and Noise, the Hyper Bunny, StelaBird, Felix & Jayne, Beulah B., ellaminnowpea, The Vintage Pearl, Modern Dharma, Raspberry Grunt, Erika Hendrix, the Knit Owl, GreenerMe, Tulsa Craft Mafia and Breast Impressions.

2. BLUE ANGELS: WEEKEND SHOW
The Navy’s Blue Angels, known for precision flying and aerobatics, will perform at the Muskogee air show Saturday and Sunday at Davis Field.
The airport is south of Muskogee at 1200 Sabre St. Gates and will open at 8 a.m. Tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for children. Advance tickets can be purchased at area Reasor’s stores. Tickets also will be available at the gate.

3. BOOHAHA: TRICKY STREET TREATS
The tricks and treats don’t happen only on Halloween night. Brookside’s 17th annual BooHaHa Festival invites families, pets and costumed little ones to join in the fun all day Saturday on Peoria Avenue between 33rd and 51st streets.
Activities (which include a pancake breakfast, the closing festival parade, several church carnivals, noontime trick-or-treating, costume contests for kids and pets, and more) will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

4. FREAKS AND SQUEAKS: ALL-AGES BALL
The 33rd annual Freakers Ball will feature a record five stages and 30 bands. And look for new faces like hard rock/punk/one-man act El Paso Hot Button, as well as heavy-hitting veterans.
The doors to the ball open at 7 p.m., with the show starting at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Cain’s Ballroom, 423 N. Main St. Admission to the allages show is $11 in advance and $13 at the door, available at Starship Records & Tapes, Reasor’s, www. tulsaworld.com/gettix and Cain’s box office, 584-2306. The Freakers Ball Costume contest, with a $1,000 prize, is set for 11 p.m.
5. FOOTBALL: HURRICANE HOME GAME
The University of Tulsa plays a home football game against SMU at 2 p.m. Saturday at Chapman Stadium. The Golden Hurricane looks to rebound from a loss to Central Florida last week. TU has a 4-3 record and is in a must win situation to stay in contention in the Conference USA title race. SMU has a 1-6 record.
The game will be televised on Cox Cable channel 3.

IN CONCERT
Panaro, Hayden and Chandler to perform in Signature Pops series Three multitalented Broadway performers —Hugh Panaro, Tamra Hayden and Nat Chandler —team up to share “The Heart of Broadway,” part of the Signature Symphony at Tulsa Community College’s Signature Pops series.
The concert, presented at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the VanTrease Performing Arts Center for Education, 10300 E. 81st St., will feature music by such legendary Broadway composers as Porter, Gershwin, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Rodgers and Hart, Lerner and Loewe, and Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Tickets range from $25 to $45.
