BROKEN ARROW — Police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide after two men were shot to death Friday at a Broken Arrow home.

About 11 p.m., officers responded to a call about a family disturbance involving a firearm near 1000 W. Queens St., according to a news release from the Broken Arrow Police Department. While en route, police received several reports of shots fired in the area.

After arriving at the residence, officers discovered 33-year-old Adam Mills of Broken Arrow had been shot, and his stepfather, 64-year-old James Duncan of Tulsa, was found in the backyard.

When confronted by officers, Duncan shot himself, the release states.

Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

The shootings are under investigation, but police believe Duncan shot his stepson, according to the release.

Records indicate the house where the shooting occurred was owned by Mills' brother but had also been where Duncan previously operated a home-based business.

Court documents show Duncan filed for a protective order against Mills in April 2007. It was issued but was vacated six weeks later.

Don't make light of this situation Hayes. This poor family lost two family members in a most horrific way. They may never know why either. This type of family situation happens EVERYWHERE all too often. Too sad...
