Ex-teacher to face sexual battery trial
He is accused of fondling an Owasso student when the two shared a hotel room in Tulsa.
DEFENDANT
Doug Woolery:
The Tulsa County charges involve alleged conduct during a music convention in Tulsa in January 2008 Woolery also is charged with forcible sodomy and sexual battery in Oklahoma County based on allegations by the same student related to another music convention in Oklahoma City a week earlier.

A now-resigned Owasso High School teacher must face trial on an allegation that he sexually battered a student, a judge ruled Thursday.
At a preliminary hearing, Tulsa County Special Judge David Youll ordered Doug Woolery bound over on a felony charge of sexual battery involving an Owasso High student who was 17 at the time of the alleged offense in January 2008.
The student, now 18, said he and Woolery stayed in the same room at the downtown Crowne Plaza Hotel during a music convention in Tulsa.
Woolery got on top of him in bed and removed the student's pants and underwear and used his hand to fondle the boy's genitals and masturbate, the teenager testified.
He said he did not want any of this to happen and did not "initiate anything," but he indicated that he did not say "no" and did not tell Woolery to get off him.
On Woolery's behalf, defense attorney Joseph Norwood said after the hearing that "we would dispute any type of allegation that there was not consent."
A Tulsa police affidavit, filed when Woolery was charged Feb. 24, states that the teenager reported that Woolery's actions "were unwanted and unsolicited and he was in shock and did not know what to do since the defendant was one of his instructors."
On March 9, the Owasso school board accepted the resignation of Woolery, 39, who taught vocal music and stagecraft and managed the school's Performing Arts Center. He had been suspended in February after the accusations surfaced.
In Oklahoma County, Woolery was charged March 10 with forcible sodomy and sexual battery based on allegations by the same student.
According to a police affidavit, the teenager reported that while at a music convention in Oklahoma City in January 2008 — a week before the Tulsa convention — he and Woolery shared a hotel room where those offenses are alleged to have occurred.
Woolery has posted bonds in both cases.

Oh my god! What is going on with people? If a teacher of the same sex shared a hotel room with me when I was still in school, my older brother never would have let it make it to trial. When are these freaks going to stop hurting kids?

Amen Matt!! Even though vigilante justice isn't the answer, if this had happened to one of my siblings, it would have warranted opening up a "big 'ol can of Whoop-@ss" on the perpetrator.
As a reasonbly intelligent human being, I can't even conceive how an animal such as he was hired to that position in the first place. There HAS to be similar actions on his part in the past.
If he preyed on a student this time, it's probable because he's committed similar atrocities in the past and didn't get caught.

I am so mad about this I don't even find words to express my anger. Policies must be put in place to prevent situations where the students are in danger. Conducting background checks that are more exhaustive. As parents, we should also be more cautions and supervise our kids better. I don't know what the answers are. Do you fellow readers have other ideas?

My mistake:
As parents "we should also be more "cautious" not cautions.

Well I bet he can be someone's "girlfriend" or find himself one in prison. That should make him happy but I doubt he will have any young trusting males in there. Teachers have such a strong hold over their students. Coaches have like the max of control on kids. Parents need to be sure that their kids know teachers are just like anyone else and they are not to touch them in any way.

Same thing happening twice, sounds like a "walk on the wild side" gone haywire. Since when is a male that age not able to fight off an unwanted attack?

A red flag went up in my mind when I read the teacher and student were sharing the same hotel room. I went on many trips in high school with the marching band and other organizations, and teachers never stayed in the same room with the students. Seems to me that situation would be inviting disaster, and probably should not be allowed.
