When Timika Horn and her family move into their new residence, they’ll likely have the feeling of hard work and accomplishment that comes with a Habitat for Humanity home.

They’ll also have door and window frames built by country music stars Trisha Yearwood and Garth Brooks.

Yearwood and her husband Brooks spent Saturday working on the Horn’s home as part of National Women Build Week.

The home is the ninth to be built by women volunteers in Tulsa.

“I was born in September so nine’s my lucky number. I’m pumped about house No. 9,” Yearwood said Tuesday at a Women Build Week ceremony.

After kicking off National Women Build Week in Tulsa, she’s heading to Atlanta to close out the week with volunteers on Mother’s Day.

“I’ll always be a Georgia girl but Tulsa feels like home,” she said.

Yearwood also commented on the more than 1,400 hours women have donated to Habitat houses in Tulsa since 1998.

“I’m really impressed,” she said. “That’s something to really be proud of.”

Paul Kent, executive director of Tulsa Habitat for Humanity, said the organization was created to give people the opportunity to work toward home ownership.

“It’s not a gift. It’s simply an opportunity,” he said.

Horn, a single mother of two, said this is the type of lesson she wants to teach her children.

“I wanted to teach my children the value of having your own home. It’s something to work for and be proud of,” she said.

Yearwood has helped build five homes in the last four years with Habitat.

“It’s a great organization,” she said.
