OKLAHOMA CITY – J.C. Watts said Wednesday that he has not decided whether he will run for governor in 2010 but expects to make a decision by Memorial Day.

"I would like to do it," the former congressman said, adding that he is not leaning one way or the other. Watts, a Republican and former member of the Oklahoma Corporation Commissioner, was at the Capitol to meet with lawmakers who are working to craft a state budget.

He said he confident he can raise enough money to be successful if he decides to make the governor's race.

"I will raise whatever needs to be raised," Watts said. "You don't take on something like this unless you know you will have the resources to do it."

U.S. Rep. Mary Fallin, R-Okla., and state Sen. Randy Brogdon, R-Owasso, have announced for the governor's race.

Watts said he has heard people say they are not satisfied with the two options on the Republican ticket so far.

"I don’t say that to be ungracious," Watts said.

Lt. Gov. Jari Askins, a Democrat, has also announced. Oklahoma Attorney General Drew Edmondson, also a Democrat, is considering a race.
