Two people died and another person was injured in vehicle accidents over the weekend, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.

Killed were Thomas Leistner, 56, of Maud, and Kody Gurtson, 23 of Durant.

Leistner was pulling a tree with a chain from the ground with a tractor on private property three miles south and about 2 1/2 miles west of Bowlegs in Seminole County at 6 p.m. Sunday when the tractor overturned and fell on top of him, troopers said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene with trunk and internal injuries, OHP said.

Jonathan Olive, 23 of Mead, was driving a 1983 Suzuki motorcycle with Gurtson west on U.S. 70 near Mead in Bryan County.

According to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report, the motorcycle was speeding when it hit a car that was turning right onto U.S. 70 from a private driveway about 11:30 p.m. Saturday.

Both men were thrown from the motorcycle.

Gurtson was pronounced dead at the scene. Olive was flown by helicopter to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Texas with head, body trauma and internal injuries and was in critical condition.

Neither man was wearing a helmet, according to the report.

The driver and passenger of the car were not hurt, troopers said.

What is going on people......A car pulling out of a private drive! Again a car pulled out in front of a motorcycle. It says the motorcycle was speeding, but even if it would not have been speeding, the car pulled out in front of it. People if you are in such a hurry that you have to put other people in danger when you are driving, then leave 20 minutes early. This is sick......

Bikes are waaay to easy to overlook. We need to be sure to look up and down the highway before entering the roadway. It seems we tend to look on down the road instead of looking down the first 50 feet of highway that's right in front of us.

Condolences. I hope the other guy makes it. He may have been getting a ride home from a friend because he had been drinking.

thats a terrable thing to happen. grabted the car pulling out appearently cause the accident. but, the motorcycles speed quite possably made it worse. the faster you drive, the less reaction time you have. and when you collide, the extra speed makes the impact much worse. still, it is tragic that a man was killed. my prayers to his family.

Perhaps it was not a straight street. There might have been a incline right before the people pulled out. With a motorcycle speeding and the driver of the motorcycle drinking it was a lose-lose situation. I am not saying the highway did have an incline but you all do not know whether it was a stright shot. There could have been many variables for the accident. It is not cut and dried until the full report comes out.

H-Harl, thanks for the physics class. I guess I didn't know the faster a vehicle moves there is less of a reaction time to stop and therefore more of an impact (rolls eyes).

Are you kidding me. Yes, people are in such a hurry. The motorcycle was speeding, what was their hurry? The majority of automobile drivers are trained to look for other cars and the bike could have been in a blind spot of their car.

Reagrdless, condolences to the families.

Reagerdless of the car the motorcyclist had 2 strikes against him.
1. Not wearing a helmet
2. Possibly, driving while intoxicated

As a motorcyclist I know the risk of riding, therefore I must also be looking at the 150 ft right in front of me.

few clothes, you may be right about the no helmet and the possibly drinking part, however you say automobile drivers are trained to look for other cars? Well I do not know where you got your training, but I was trained to look for cars, motorcycles, bicycles, pedestrians, etc. so the car was not paying attention. But whatever, it seems like the majority of the comments on here are not for the victim. I hope I never have to face many of you in a jury for any reason at all. Give me a break.................

jestergirl...i realize that logical people know that speed makes a diference in an accident. the reason i posted that is because i've met many people who believe driving fast makes no difference at all.

It was almost midnight when it happened and if jestergrl is right in regard to a curve or incline then it would make it even more hard to know in the dark - I guess either way if there were any type of obstacle then it doesn't matter if it were night or day, but it sounds like a horrible accident no matter how you spin it.

Are you Kidding Me, We are talking about the Victim of an accident, not a murder. I am more than sure the car did not pull out in front of the motorcycle on purpose. If the bike had not been speeding it could have helped and helmets would have been good to. Lets not make the person in the automobile feel any worse than I am sure they do. Good Grief it could happen to any one of us. It was a Tragic Accident. From some of these comments I feel very sorry for the person who pulled out of their driveway.. Has anyone considered how they feel???

I have reread the article 3 times. I still can't find where it says anything about the driver drinking. Was that deleted from an earlier edition or are you just speculating?

Are You Kidding Me The one in A Hurry was the one on the Motorcycle. The story says they were speeding not the person who pulled out of the driveway. My sympathies to both parties. A very tragic Accident.
