McALESTER — A powerful storm that roared through Pittsburg County early Saturday closed roads, caused damage and left thousands of utility customers in the dark.

No injuries were reported from the storm, which dropped a tree on a mobile home and damaged some vehicles in Haileyville, Pittsburg County Emergency Management Director Trent Myers said. Lesser damage was reported in other areas of the county.

Several rural roads in the Indianola and Haileyville areas were closed for a time because of downed trees, Myers said.

In McAlester, power lines and trees were downed. At one point, over 5,800 AEP/PSO customers were without power in Pittsburg County, over two-thirds of those in the McAlester and Krebs area, said Frank Phillips of American Electric Power-Public Service Company of Oklahoma.

Service to most customers had been restored by Saturday afternoon, Phillips said.
