Two people died on state roads late Saturday and troopers discovered a fatal crash that occurred earlier in the week, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.

Killed were Jeffrey Alba, 48, of Erick; Robert Grimmett, 31, of Stilwell, and William Czech, 56, of Rochester, Minn.

Alba died Saturday night in a one-car crash on a Beckham County road just south of Erick.

A passenger in the vehicle, Gary Pigg, 45, of Erick, was transported to a nearby hospital and was listed in fair condition.

According to an OHP report, Alba was driving a 1996 Ford Explorer south at a high rate of speed when the vehicle went out of control and went off the road. The vehicle rolled twice, ejecting Alba about 100 feet.

He was pronounced dead at Sayre Memorial Hospital.

Alba was not wearing a seat belt.

In a separate crash at 11:15 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 59 just south of Stilwell in Adair County, Grimmett died after the vehicle he was in ran off the road and rolled over.

Grimmett and the other occupant of the car, Michael Shell, 42, of Stilwell, were ejected from the vehicle.

Shell was taken to Washington Regional Hospital in Fayetteville, Ark., where he was listed in critical condition.

Troopers were unable to determine who was driving the vehicle.

Neither occupant was wearing seat belts.

In addition, the OHP reported, a fatal crash that occurred earlier in the week was discovered Saturday by a motorist traveling on the Indian Nations Turnpike in Choctaw County.

Troopers reported the accident occurred around 2 p.m. Tuesday when a Chevy pickup driven by Czech was traveling north on the turnpike and went off the road, struck a fence and then hit a tree.

The vehicle, which came to a stop in thick brush several hundred feet off the road, was discovered Saturday when a motorist saw the reflection of a taillight and notified authorities, the Highway Patrol report said.

"Late Saturday night" Wonder if alcohol had anything to do with the accidents. Why people don't wear seat belts is beyond me. Staying in the car in an accident is so much safer than being thrown out and rolled over.
