FREDERICK, Okla. (AP) — Authorities say a man fatally shot his wife and then killed himself at a home in Frederick.
Assistant police chief Joel Neely says 41-year-old Deyone Miller shot 35-year-old Laterria Miller shot multiple times with a 9 mm pistol before he shot himself to death.
Neely says police officers performing a welfare check on the couple found them dead in the bedroom of the residence about 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
He says investigators were told that Deyone Miller had called several family members and told them that he had shot his wife.
Neely says the couple was having marital problems and had separated for a time before Laterria Miller returned.
He says they had four children.

Yes. ajohnb, it'very sad. VERY sad, but one mate killing the other and then committing suicide is getting to be fairly common lately. Many reasons exist; I have no pat answer or solution.

Partially - it may be attributable to our societies' continued hedonistic attitudes. We are lured into believing that we can control more things (including each other) when in fact we can't. We used to "grow out" of this during our late teens. Sadly...it's not happening to many at all.
Unfortunately, it appears that Mr. Miller grew despondent at his inability to control something he thought he needed to control. And his only answer was murder.
How selfish - to leave four children parent-less.

Interesting information:
The suicide rate in the USA is far lower than
Sweden, Switzerland, Belgium, Japan, or Lithuania. Many of these countries have better "Government help" programs than the US. Some have as much freedom as we do some have less. It would be interesting to see a real study, with no bias, that could answer some of the "whys" on suicide in our nation.

Ol Feller, I suspicion the USA suicide rate is much higher than the spotty figures we get.I check the police web often, and it seems they have to respond to quite a few suicides. Higher-ups want to downplay the crisis, if possible, to keep people from getting panicy. Many suicides are listed as "other" and are hidden from records or by loved ones
2 CURIOUS: Control over another or a situation IS a good response. We see those people every day! They usually fizzle out!You are right.

...
Some stats to ponder...
...
From "helpstartshere-dot-org":
"As reported by the Violence Policy Center (2005), the pattern of the murder-suicide is predictable: the pattern involves a male perpetrator, female victim, a decision by the woman to leave the man, and a gun.
A handgun was used in 92% of the incidents.
The offender was 6.3 years older on average than the victim.
Texas had the highest number of cases; the typical Florida pattern involved an elderly male caregiver overwhelmed by his inability to care for an infirmed wife."
...
Nice to see Oklahoma isn't top of that list!.
...
And America isn't alone in this senseless violence.
From "TopNews Law":
"Murder-suicides involving children are on the rise in Hong Kong and other Chinese societies across Asia - and researchers examining the tragic trend believe a deluded sense of kindness lies behind the killings.
In Hong Kong, the number of cases has risen from five to six a year in the past 10 years while in Taiwan, the annual rate has leapt from around six to 28 a year, a study by the University of Hong Kong and University of Macau has found.
Some cases are particularly shocking. In October 2007, a 36-year-old Hong Kong mother whose husband had cancer tied up the hands and feet of her nine-year-old son and 12-year-old daughter and pushed them from the 24th floor of a building. She then leapt to her death herself."

Can things really ever be this bad to carry out such an act?
I will never understand it.

Arbythree:
Things may not actually "be that bad," but, when some people are put in certain situations, they flip out (so to speak) and they don't think there is any other solution.
Suicide is a long term solution for a short time problem
