BIXBY — Paul Newsom, a television personality and president of Newsom Productions, died Wednesday. He was 64.
A service will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Asbury United Methodist Church in Tulsa under the direction of Leonard & Marker Funeral Home.
Newsom, the only child of LaVada and John Newsom, was born April 8, 1945, in Oklahoma City. He graduated from Southeast High School in Oklahoma City and attended Murray State College in Tishomingo and Oklahoma State University in Stillwater.
For more than 15 years, he was the host and executive producer of the "Paul Newsom's Great Outdoors" television series. His son, Bo Newsom, worked alongside him as co-producer, videographer and editor, and his daughter Emma Newsom had a feature, "Emma's Emails," on the show.
Newsom also helped produce and host other outdoor television programs, including "Hunting the Country," "Outdoor Adventure Digest," "The Camp Cook" and the National Rifle Association's "American Rifleman."
He appeared on "Dallas," OETA's "Oklahoma Passage," "Dark Before Dawn" and "Max Lucado's The Christmas Child."
In 1985, he started Newsom Productions, an advertising, marketing and television video production company.
Newsom was a spokesman for many nationwide companies and several Oklahoma-owned businesses, including Oklahoma Natural Gas, Jim Glover Dodge and Chevrolet, and AutoMax Hyundai.
He was on the boards of the Bixby Daily Family YMCA and Bixby Public Schools.
For 19 years, he served on the Oklahoma lieutenant governor's Committee for Economic Development.
Newsom was a past president of the United Sportsman's Alliance of Oklahoma, the Oklahoma City chapter of Ducks Unlimited and the Oklahoma chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Newsom; one son, Bo Newsom; four daughters, Emma Newsom, Paula Hurt, Dee Bowser and Jennifer Scalzo; four granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter.

I was shocked to learn of Mr. Newsom's passing this morning.
Does anyone know if he's had a lingering illness or if it was a sudden thing (i.e. heart attack, etc.) ??
May he RIP.

He had a wonderful on-air personality...not pushy, not boisterous. Easy on the ears and eyes.

There is a very respectful article about Mr. Newsom titled Mr. Oklahoma by Butch Bagwell at fourcamelsatsea. I always liked him on the commercials and on his outdoors program. I wish his family well. He will be sorely missed.
