Police arrested a second man in the shooting death of a 14-year-old boy Tuesday night and then said they are searching for a third person to interview about the homicide.

Shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday, police received an anonymous tip that Tyler Deerinwater, 18, was at a residence in the 1600 block of North Yorktown Place.

Police had previously announced that they were searching for Deerinwater to question him in the July 1 shooting death of Tevin Mathies of Missouri. Some police records indicate that Mathies’ first name is spelled Tevon, but his aunt said it is spelled Tevin.

As officers drove toward the residence on Yorktown Place, Deerinwater went out the back door. After a short foot pursuit, officers arrested him.

During subsequent interviews, Deerinwater admitted his involvement in the shooting, records state. He was booked into the Tulsa Jail on a complaint of first-degree

murder, Officer Jason Willingham said.

Witnesses told police that Mathies was walking with friends at an apartment complex in the 10800 block of East 33rd Street when a dark-colored vehicle drove by. At least two men who were armed with guns got out of the vehicle, according to an arrest report.

One of the men was wearing a red baseball hat and was armed with a shotgun. Witnesses later identified Deerinwater as that man, and during questioning by police, Deerinwater admitted that he had gotten out of the vehicle with a shotgun when the shooting occurred, the arrest report says.

Jeffrey Proctor, 20, of Tulsa, was arrested Friday on a first-degree murder complaint in Mathies’ death, according to jail records.

A witness reported seeing Proctor holding a handgun when he ran toward Mathies. The same witness heard a gunshot, saw the victim fall to the ground and then saw Proctor leave in a vehicle, according to a police report.

Proctor has admitted to being at the scene of the homicide and having a handgun at the time, according to the report.

Willingham said they are also seeking another person of interest in Mathies’ death, Anthony Drake Ahaisse. Ahaisse is described as a 5-foot-7-inch American Indian man weighing 130 pounds, Willingham said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call or text-message Crime Stoppers at 596-COPS or e-mail police at tulsaworld.com/crimestoppers.

The Crime Commission offers rewards for information that leads to arrests.
