Robbery eyed as motive in killing
A fatal shooting at an apartment com- plex was Tulsa's 37th homicide this year.

Police are investigating whether the fatal shooting of a man at an apartment complex early Saturday occurred during a robbery attempt.
The fatal attack on Pedro Sanchez, 40, at the Plantation Apartments, 5537 E. 47th Place, is a "whodunit" at this time, and detectives are seeking anyone who might have information about the killing, Officer Leland Ashley said.
At this point in the investigation, there is no evidence that Sanchez knew the men who approached his family's car in the parking lot about 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
The victim's wife and two children were in the vehicle at the time of the shooting.
According to the Sanchez family, they had been visiting relatives who lived in the apartment complex, police said.
As they were leaving, they reportedly were approached by four men, all of whom were wearing black and white clothing with black and white bandanas, police said.
One of the men leaned into the vehicle with a gun and told Sanchez to put the car in park, police said. Sanchez apparently tried to drive away, and the man shot him.
"At this point, the detectives think that this was motivated by robbery," Ashley said.
When officers arrived, they found Sanchez slumped over the steering wheel.
He had been shot in the upper torso, police said. He was taken by ambulance to St. Francis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Sanchez' death was the 37th homicide investigated by Tulsa police this year.
Anyone
with information about the homicide is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 596-COPS or submit a tip online at
tulsaworld.com/crimestoppers
.
The Crime Commission offers rewards for information leading to arrests, and tipsters can remain anonymous.

The story continues to change. It was that the criminals were wearing all black. Also, I understood that the victim and his family lived at the Plantation Apartments.
Perhaps slowly the truth will come out. Unless other people at the apartment complex knows these criminals and speak up, finding 4 black men with no other descriptions is going to be impossible.

I agree happy8003104b. Unfortunately, slowly our freedoms are being taken away by criminals.
It is not safe for women to be out alone at night; not safe to drive around with your vehicle doors unlocked; not safe to drive around with your windows down; not safe to stop and help a person in distress. We may eventually all need body guards.

I still feel there is more to this story. I think they have more information, that would help identify the men that did this, and they just aren't publicly saying.

so, if is true like Chilango says Pedro's wife saw the killer's face when he took his mask off, she needs to be put in a victim protection program and give more information before these criminals kill somebody else.

Sad to say but the little we know leads me to believe that the wife is involved...why would the man supposedly take his mask off, shoot the husband and then run away leaving potentially 3 people to identify him...something smells fishy.

tulsatradition: So now it would seem one of the 4 BLACK PEOPLE took his mask off; oh really! If it was four hispanics dressed in black do you think the witnesses would have said so or identified them. Four BLACK MEN were an intelligant choice.
I have no idea what to do about the people that have crossed over to rage, fear and anger. Aa I said in Sunday's blog, the people living in the North of 51st Street area have an a really tough life.
What I determined as an apartment manager there that the thing to do is "support the children" unlucky to be living in that area. Some of the little ones are locked out of their apartment all day. When I called the DHS they said that I needed to know what really bad things they have to deal with. I said "just hang on I'll have some really tragic incidents for you, if I don't get help with these children".
Children as young as three years old, skinny, all arms, legs and teeth, still sweet and hopeful, (at some level). What gets me is how easy it would be to make things a lot better.
In the short time I managed a property in that area, I had ice cream get togethers on hot Saturday evening, I invited to local Fire Station to come over and hand out the ice cream. The children loved it. The Fire Fighters showed the little boys everything on the Fire Truck. Before anyone gets upset because the Fire Fighters came over for a visit, it wasn't a promotion just one of my many ways to try to stabilize the community, (just that complex). Less tax dollars were spent than it would take to keep someone incarcerated for a week. That brings me to another point. There are a hundred or so children living in that area, it would cost less to send them all to day camp every year with tax dollars than it would the jail one of them for a year. I checked.
Here is another frustration. Everyone in the City of Tulsa system that I called looking for resources for the children, agreed to help. Each and every one of them. The police are doing all they can. They are not patroling that area of town in mid-summer heat wearing bullet proof vests and those hot uncomfortable uniforms just for the money.
If the children living there now were supported the gang problem woud be over in a few years. Maybe not the perfect solution but the only one I can see that would really work.
I'm not there anymore, I didn't leave because I was afraid, the landlord didn't like the things I was doing. It seems I might bring people of merit around they might take a closer look. So I left. However I will not forget what I learned and you never know.
