Accidents kill Coweta man, Bethel woman

Two people were killed in separate accidents Saturday night and Sunday night, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.

Dead are Kenneth Edward Johnson, 45, of Coweta and Barbara Jane Hodge, 33, of Bethel.

A tractor driven by Johnson rolled over for an unknown reason and pinned him underneath for about an hour.

The accident happened about 8 p.m. on private property near a Wagoner County road about one mile south and four miles west of Coweta, troopers said.

Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second accident occurred about 1 a.m. Sunday on a McCurtain County road about six miles south and 11 miles west of Smithville. Troopers said Hodge was driving a northbound 1999 Dodge pickup that ran off the road, struck a tree and started to overturn before it struck a second tree and spun back onto the roadway, according to the Highway Patrol.

Hodge was pronounced dead at the scene.

One of her passengers refused treatment and a second one was not injured, the patrol said.

Hodge was not wearing a seat belt, troopers said. By Staff Reports
