LANGSTON — Langston University officials have announced a 30-day moratorium on campus social events and the adoption of 24-hour security measures.

Monday's announcement, made in a news release, came a day after five people were shot after a party in the school's gymnasium.

School officials said that within 30 days the campus will have two 24-hour security checkpoints through which all students, faculty and staff members and visitors must be cleared. All vehicles will be subject to search, and drivers will have to show identification. The checkpoint guard will keep a copy of the driver's ID on file.

The two gates that usually are open off old Oklahoma 33 soon will be closed and locked, the news release states.

not your friend 2,,,, missy, no thanks (8/18/2009 3:19:24 AM)
How sad that so many people had to endure such a tragic situation........just one more party before school and then another after it starts.Should rethink about when to shut down a party in the parking lot of a university. At 1:30 am,that should have shut down long before that time.

I think this reflects on the student body and staff big time....this doesnt happen on OU's or OSU's campuses!

OSU there was a football player and a basketball player stabbed at OU last year. Also, at one of the greek parties in 2006 a woman was shot a party. It's not the school but the crowds the parties attract.

Osuhunter. You're right. The last I knew, this University is predomanently a black U. Maybe all the gangbangers from OKC and Tulsa are party crashers. I went to SWOSU in Weatherford and went to Langston for basketball games. Scary in the 1960's.

That's your opinion jaha. Why don't you go to Langston and spend a weekend there? Then you can report how much you loved it.

The facts are that none of the students involved were from Langston. It was a party that had students from OU,OSU and several other schools present. There were even some high school students, stupid I know...

Yeah, it should've been scary in the 60's!
