Just Between Friends

Just Between Friends is back for all those moms and dads wanting to help other local parents and get some good deals on stuff for their little ones.

The consignment sale held twice a year for summer and winter clothes was created by local moms who got together to trade and buy their gently used clothing, toys, books and furniture with others needing those items. You can't stop kids from growing out of clothes quickly, but you can take the pinch out of it. Don't forget to bring a laundry basket to carry your items. Call for admission details and schedule.

Sunday-Aug. 29. Exchange Center at Expo Square, 4145 E. 21st St. 902-5673, tulsaworld.com/jbf.

It's a Mod, Mod, Mod, Mod World

One of the most impressive private collections of 20th century American art ever assembled opens Sunday at the Philbrook Museum of Art. "Auspicious Vision: Edward Wales Root and American Modernism" will showcase a portion of the more than 200 paintings Root accumulated during his life.

Root's collection — which includes works by such artists as Maurice Prendergast, Edward Hopper, Charles Burchfield, Robert Motherwell, Jackson Pollock and more — was the first private collection of American contemporary art ever shown at New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art. Root donated his collection to the Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute in Utica, N.Y., which put together this touring exhibition.

Philbrook Museum of Art, 2727 S. Rockford Road. Admission is $7.50 general admission; $5.50 seniors and students. 749-7941, tulsaworld.com/philbrook
