A Manchester man drowned Saturday night in a private lake in Alfalfa County after attempting to swim from one shore to the other, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.

Johnnie Leon Hess, 55, was part of a large group of people who were at the northwestern Oklahoma lake near Byron for a party.

About 8 p.m. Saturday, Hess, while attempting to swim across the lake, went under and never resurfaced, according to a highway patrol report.

The lake patrol started dragging the lake at 8 a.m. Sunday, and Hess' body was recovered about 9:45 a.m.

Borrowed Modem, what???

The sensitivity and compassion of some of the posted when stories of this never cease to amaze me. I wonder what you would have to say if it was someone in your own family?

I hear ya borrowed modem. That was dumb attention getter that backfired. I'll bet in his younger days he did it several times a day. Sooooo OK kids remember not to try this yourself and learn from the mistakes of others. OH YEA BTW: my condolences to this guys family I'm sure he left behind a lovely wife and many grandchildren who will miss him. What's that again. When in the water wear a flotation device especially if you are intoxicated. Why? So if you drown it won't be so hard to find you cause you'll be floating pretty good. You know make it a little easier for the overburdened hiway patrol who are too buisy giving EMSA people a reason to drive themselvs to the ER.

I can think of little else that even approaches the level of scum you are. Honestly, casting disparaging remarks about a recently deceased person that you don’t even know makes you a piece of crap that is not worthy of life. The party was not a drinking party, by the way.

I knew Johnnie and I can tell you that he was a very kind and decent person. I can also tell you that he wouldn’t be writing terrible internet comments about your death if the roles happened to be reversed.

Also, if you would care to meet with me and talk this out eyeball to eyeball, just let me know. I’d be more than happy to drive to Tulsa, or wherever you live.

Borrowed Modem: Your profile says that you live in Turley, so why are you drinking in Coweta? My mother taught me a long time ago...the best way to deal with an idiot is to ignore him, so I am suggesting to all that when Borrowed Modem makes his usual comments, just ignore them. He does them to get the only attention that he gets in his miserable little life.
