ALVA — Angry hunters and landowners have sparked a state investigation of a Coweta man accused of organizing guided hunts on private Oklahoma land he didn't own or lease.

Hunters have complained for years to Oklahoma law enforcement authorities about deer and quail hunts organized by James Adam "A.J." Jenkins. The complaints have come from western Oklahoma landowners as well as hunters located in North Carolina, Maryland, Arkansas and several other states.

"To do that with people that carry guns is pretty stupid," said Rob Sample, an Arkansas man who said he was part of a group of 12 hunters who were duped into paying Jenkins $20,000 in advance last spring for a quail hunt this coming November. "We're not that kind ... but he could sure put together a lynch mob really easily if he weren't careful."

Sample, 50, said his group tried unsuccessfully to get its money back after one of Jenkins' guides called and warned them that Jenkins had repeatedly gotten hunters in trouble by putting them in situations where they were trespassing.

The best tools,to use of any game hunters is ASK for references before a hunting lease is paid for, to an individual.Dont depend on the wildlife department for any help, they could care less, its the money they are after.

Geez, what kind of quail were they hunting? I'll cut that in half and you can come out to my place for 4 hours, Budweiser and cigars inlcuded afterwards to discuss your recent manly accomplishments. If someome paid $20K to hunt quail they deserve to be duped, freakin' idiot...

Sample is either ballsy or stupid to continue this, especially if there is a No Trespassing sign on the property. I also question the sanity of the hunters who would pay $20,000.00 to hunt quail.

Years ago when I was quail hunter it only cost a couple of boxes of shells and a little gasoline. We hunted on private property with the permission of the land owner. We always seen to it the proptery owner got a few birds for his kindness.

I gave it up after the death of my bird dog never did get another one. I worked with that dog for quite sometime. The first time I shot around him he ran off, I had to go looking for him. I later found him sitting in the passenager seat of my truck waiting on my return. It took awhile but he lost his fear of a gunshots. And I learn to roll up my windows in the field.

After reading the complete story on Jenkins I say he's crook, a con man and a thief. I also came to the conclusion that anyone paying $20,000 for a bird hunting trip is a idiot.

Another problem is that the state has no licensing requirtments for hunting guides that needs to be changed in the 2010 legislauture kicking off in February.

Let's see...

$20,000.00 for the hunt...

Skin and gut the quail...

How much is that per pound?

You guys have to read the whole story. This guy has been fleecing people for years. The reason he gets away with this stuff is that our State legislature is too busy trying to pass goofy bills instead of truly worthwhile bills. Hunting and fishing guides need to be licensed. This license can be pulled when they are crooks.
John Groendyke, a state wildlife commissioner of more than 30 years, said complaints about Jenkins "have been going on for several years.” He said there is no licensing requirement for hunting guides, but the Wildlife Department would support one.
How difficult would it be to put it together folks?

Why doesn't the Oklahoma Legislature enact a law requiring hunting and fishing guides be licensed? Maybe, just maybe, because many of them are getting free guided hunts from guides who don't want to have to screw around with being licensed by the state.

That was a funny story "My View" about your dog. You would think with the kind of money these guides are making they could afford a 25.00-50.00 annual license from the state but then why is it needed? If this guy or anyone is trespassing and taking others to trespass on anothers property then why haven't they charged him years ago when the first complaint came in?
