Dewey man charged with escaping police custody

BARTLESVILLE A 30-year-old Dewey man is facing multiple charges in Washington County District Court after fighting with his girlfriend and escaping police custody.
Mike Walter Lee Nelson was charged Thursday with domestic abuse, damaging public property, public intoxication and escape from custody following a fracas at a local motel. A $50,000 bond was set.
Nelson told police he and his girlfriend had been drinking and got into an argument Wednesday, a court affidavit stated.
When police responded, they caught Nelson in a housing addition near the motel and took him into custody. When the patrol car arrived at the police department, Nelson was told to stand beside the car. Instead, he took off through the parking lot.
Several officers went after Nelson, who at one point jumped on top of a patrol car and attempted to climb a fence while handcuffed. The fence was damaged, but the escape plan failed, according to the affidavit.

This is a visual challange. How was he going to land after jumping the fence? Belly flop?
