Snyder council demotes police officer to reserve

SNYDER, Okla. (AP) — The City Council in the Kiowa County town of Snyder have demoted a full-time police officer to reserve.

Christy McBee was demoted during a closed-door executive session. Councilors would not discuss the reason but some have expressed unhappiness with Mayor Gary Max Anderson's hiring of McBee.

City ordinances call for officers to be appointed by the police chief and approved by the council. Council member Theresa Mills says the mayor hired McBee and the council never approved it.

Mills has also said she's concerned about nepotism because McBee's husband is Police Chief Johnny McBee.

Johnny McBee says the only thing that was done wrong was that the mayor hired his wife incorrectly.
