Afghanistan: As of Monday, at least 782 members of the U.S. military had died in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Uzbekistan as a result of the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan in late 2001, according to the Defense Department.

The latest deaths reported by the military:

  • A soldier died Monday of wounds suffered in an insurgent attack Sunday in southern Afghanistan.


The latest identification:

  • Army Staff Sgt. Thomas D. Rabjon, 39, of Litchfield Park., Ariz., died Saturday in Wardak province, Afghanistan, of wounds from a roadside bomb. Assigned to the 363rd Explosive Ordnance Detachment, Coolidge, Ariz.


Iraq: As of Monday, at least 4,348 members of the U.S. military had died in the Iraq war since it began in March 2003.

No new U.S. deaths were reported. The latest identification:

  • Army Spc. Paul E. Andersen, 49, of Dowaglac, Mich., died Thursday in Baghdad of wounds suffered from indirect fire. Assigned to the 855th Quartermaster Company, South Bend, Ind.
