A Christian film being shown under an unusual sponsorship arrangement with three area churches is in its fifth week at the Dickinson Starworld 20 Theatre, 10300 S. Memorial Drive.

"The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry" ended a four-week run Thursday at two other area theaters: AMC Theatres, 4923 E. 41st St., and Dickinson Owasso 10 theater.

The film began in the three theaters Sept. 18 under an agreement in which a church pays $2,000 to place the film in the theater, and is reimbursed when box office receipts reach a certain level.

"The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry" was produced and marketed by independent Christian filmmaker Rich Christiano. It tells the story of a 75-year-old man who befriends three boys and teaches them biblical principles to deal with a neighborhood bully.

The film stars Gavin Mac- Leod, the captain of "The Love Boat" in the popular 1970s television series.

Local churches participating in the project are Arrow Heights Baptist Church, Broken Arrow; First Presbyterian Church, Tulsa; and Faith Lutheran Church, Owasso.

The Rev. Jim Miller, pastor of First Presbyterian, said the film is a tender story with a strong message.

He said the church supported the project because "we're in such a visual age. Our culture is saturated with high-power, savvy and slick movies, very powerful movies, in which the Christian message easily gets lost."
