Woodward teens accused in plot to kill foster parents

WOODWARD — When the funding for 16-year-old Ashley Jewell’s psychiatric treatment ran dry three weeks early, her foster parents were told that she could still have some "other episodes.”

But 63-year-old Robert Parker and his wife, Barbra, 60, never imagined that a week after their "daughter” returned from the hospital the girl would be standing over their bed with a smoking pistol and the man she called "daddy” left bleeding through the bed sheets with a hole in his chest, Barbra Parker said.

It was last Friday in a Woodward home where police say Jewell and another foster daughter, Kelsey Beams, 15, carried out a scheme to kill Robert Parker and his wife.

The Parkers, who minister at a Church of God in Henryetta, say Jewell and Beames had plotted to rob and kill them while they slept, and then kill a third foster daughter who would not go along with the plan. Both girls remained in separate juvenile detention facilities Wednesday, charged as youthful offenders with felony counts of shooting with intent to kill and conspiracy to commit murder.

There is alot of untold story here. I'm glad the foster parents and the kids remain alive to tell it. When and if the story is told, opinions may change and blames may shift.

fredsdad, the news and newspapers have covered this quite well. I am not sure what untold story you are looking for. She is a brat. Do the crime, do the time.

Reports earlier (last week) on the news said the girls were unhappy with moving to Woodward - that they wanted to stay in Henryetta where they could party and smoke dope. I believe the father is back at home as they were showing him in a residence during the interview.
Wow - my dad was in the military - we moved about every year or two. My high school years were in two different states and three different countries, what would these girls have done under those circumstances. Too bad if they are convicted, they will be released when they turn 18. Not much of a punishment for trying to kill two people.

Yeah fredsdad, there is plenty of story if you look elsewhere. This is the result of a teen with serious issues and the ability to manipulate others.

The way this story words it, 3 more weeks of treatment and she would have been a model teenager.

Makes you not want to become a foster parent.

GoBluGal: you Mayor_Maynot be correct. According to Woodward news they have problems just like anybody else. This girl is not an ok person. She is sick.
I have a mountain of respect for adoptive/foster parents. They are willing to protect nuture and love these poor broken packages in a monumentally thankless effort to give unfortunate children a better pattern to reshape their warped life. Who knows what disasters these children have had to endure prior to this with their biological parents or other foster care.

Well I suppose they aint the family jewels,Or maybe they shot him in the family jewels, either way its sad that children dont respect. If it was anything else than, they could have went to a councilor and told them, couldnt of been a money thing cause they was foster children. Now,its bey bey bey.

Usually it's the foster parents that are the abusers. If these people knew of the girl's mental unstability then they should have taken more precautionary measures with her. Wonder if the way she was treated by them had anything to do with her choices. I mean, the other girl went along with it so easily, makes me wonder.

I partially blame a system that ends needed treatment because the "funding" ran out. If these shrinks knew she posed a potential danger to herself or others, then they should be held liable. Prayers are with these foster parents, and hats off for trying to do the right thing taking these troubled kids into their home.

Skippy

Yeah, lets ruin some "shrinks" lives because a couple psychotic teens made a choice.

Garbage posts like this are getting old. Stop trying to blame the entire world and leave it where it belongs, with the girls.

oldnorthroad- Did you not read the article? This girl was being treated until the insurance ran out. Someone KNEW this girl had serious problems and no one better than the treating physicians. They had an obligation to make sure these girls were not a danger to themselves or others. Maybe there were no warning signs leading up to this tragic event, but what if the signs were all there and nothing was done?
