GOWEN, Okla. — A deer hunter has been shot and killed in the Gowen Mountain area in southeast Oklahoma.

Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Jessica Brown says 44-year-old John A. Morgan of Hartshorne was shot and killed about 6 p.m. Saturday while deer hunting in Latimer County.

Latimer County Sheriff Israel Beauchamp identified the shooter as Jack Zearley of the Hartshorne area.

Beauchamp said Monday that no arrests have been made and while investigators are still looking into the case he says he expects the shooting to be ruled an accident. He says the two men were friends and were hunting together when Morgan was shot in the throat by a high powered rifle.
