Two men were killed in separate rollover crashes Tuesday in Mayes and Kay counties, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Dead are Curtis James Prescott, 77, of Locust Grove and Matthew Scott, 36, of Tonkawa.

Prescott was headed north on Cavalier Road near Locust Grove when he veered off a curved stretch of road about 4:05 p.m., troopers said.

He overcorrected and his 1970 Ford Maverick returned to the road and rolled once. Prescott was trapped inside the wreckage for nearly 20 minutes and died at the scene from massive injuries, the OHP reported.

A passenger, 34-year-old Tommy Collins Jr. of Locust Grove suffered arm injuries but refused medical treatment.

Neither man was wearing a seat belt, according to the OHP.

About five hours later, Scott died when he was thrown from a 1998 BMW and landed underneath the vehicle, troopers said.

Scott was driving at a high rate of speed along Industrial Boulevard on the outskirts of Ponca City. The BMW rolled several times when he left the gravel road and tried to regain control, the OHP reported.

Scott was trapped underneath the vehicle for about 15 minutes and died from massive injuries. A passenger, 27-year-old Tyson Iman of Tonkawa was hospitalized with head and internal injuries, troopers said.

Investigators said Scott smelled of alcohol and was not wearing a seat belt.

I'm glad innocent bystanders weren't injured/killed.

I would think at 36 you would know better than to drive like that!

T.B'Ville -

Some people know better at 36, but there are a lot more (seems like) who still act like 16 yr. olds. Give a man (or woman) a car built for speed and there you have it.

Condolences to the families involved.
