Afghanistan: As of Monday, at least 839 members of the U.S. military had died in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Uzbekistan as a result of the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan in late 2001, according to the Defense Department.

No new U.S. deaths were reported.

The latest identifications reported by the military:

  • Army Spc. Christopher J. Coffland, 43, of Baltimore, Md., died Friday in Wardak province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered in a roadside bombing. Assigned to the 323rd Military Intelligence Battalion, Fort Meade, Md.


  • Marine Lance Cpl. Shawn P. Hefner, 22, of Hico, Texas, died Friday while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. Assigned to the 2nd Amphibious Assault Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.


Iraq: As of Monday, at least 4,363 members of the U.S. military had died in the Iraq war since it began in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.

The latest death reported by the military:

  • A soldier died Monday of injuries in a vehicle accident during a patrol in Iraq.


The latest identification reported by the military:

  • Marine Staff Sgt. Stephen L. Murphy, 36, of Jaffery, N.H., died Nov. 9 in a nonhostile incident in Anbar province, Iraq. Assigned to the 2nd Intelligence Battalion, II Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

    AS B, Hussein continues to be more concerned about the Asians than Americans and American soldiers.
