A cement truck overturned in rush-hour traffic Wednesday morning, causing a traffic snarl and injuring the driver.

The rig was carrying about 40,000 pounds of concrete when it crashed at the intersection of 81st Street and Garnett Road about 7:30 a.m., Broken Arrow Police Sgt. Ed Ferguson said.

Medics took the driver to SouthCrest Hospital, but his injuries were not life-threatening, Ferguson said.

Police blocked part of the intersection while crews upended the truck and cleaned up a small amount of concrete that spilled onto a sidewalk. Ferguson said he expected the roadway to be clear by about 10 a.m.

"We've got quite a bit of traffic congestion," he said. "Fortunately, there were no significant injuries and we only had one vehicle involved."

Ferguson said the man was driving too fast as he turned south onto Garnett Road while heading to a job site. The cement also made the truck top-heavy, he said.

And there is a great chance a car cut him off, forcing evasive action.. not that Tulsa has any rude, careless, negligent, ill mannered or impolite drivers !

As usual, no details on this accident, just like the local tv news. Why even report this event, if you are not going to give us pertinent info? Like, was the driver impaired? Were there other drivers involved? Why did he turn over? What ridiculous news reporting this town has! So inadequate!

As you can from comments above, when there is inadequate, inefficient, and incompetent news reporting,...we only left to speculate.

well from the looks of the parking lot type white stripes an curb an sidewalk, I'd say he spilled his coffee an missed his turn, no damage to the front of the truck.. just careless probably...........concrete evidence.<-- too funny livinlarge.

Dwight – You may be right about another vehicle cutting him off but somehow I remember something in the DL manual about driving at a speed that allows you to MAINTAIN CONTROL OF YOUR VEHICLE WHEN THE UNEXPECTED OCCURS. Instead of shifting the blame to someone else why not stick with the driver that FAILED TO MAINTAIN CONTROL of his vehicle?

Might be concrete evidence there, but I bet he has not cemented his career.

Apparently the driver was inexperienced? Maybe he was in a rush to get to Micky D's for some breakfast burritos?
