A high school student who is accused of shooting a man to death during a drug deal was arrested Wednesday evening in connection with the slaying.
Police allege that Michael Wayne Dorsey, 18, opened fire on Ryan Larone Jones during a marijuana sale near the 2600 block of East Tecumseh Street, according to Dorsey's arrest report.
Dorsey and Antwone Hankins met Jones, 20, about 3:35 p.m. before they all got into a black Ford Thunderbird, police said.
As the deal for 2 ounces of marijuana unfolded, Dorsey turned around and shot Jones, who was sitting in the back seat, police allege.
Dorsey and Hankins then drove away with Jones still in the car, police said.
Jones' brother and another person had been following in another vehicle, and a short chase ensued after the slaying, police said.
Hankins is accused of speeding down the street for about three blocks while Jones' brother tried to ram the car off the road.
As Hankins and Dorsey ran from the vehicle, one of them fired shots at the other car, police allege.
Several children from a nearby elementary school and day care were in the area when the shots were fired but were not injured, police said.
Jones was pronounced dead at St. John Medical Center.
Officer Leland Ashley said police Gang Unit officers have dealt with Dorsey in the past and later found him at his mother's house. He is being held without bail.
Dorsey, a senior at McLain High School for Science and Technology, was questioned and admitted to the shooting, his arrest report states.
Dorsey faces one complaint of first-degree murder and two complaints of shooting with an intent to kill, jail records indicate.
Hankins was questioned after the attack and released, Ashley said.

Wow, it sure would be nice to understand the thought process that would lead you to getting a gun, and thinking you can just shoot and kill people. Is prison that enticing? I wonder if we could institute the ability to just submit yourself to prison jurisdiction with the promise to feed and house you for 2 1/2 to 10 years.
Forgive me Michael if I don't come visit. You are barely worth the thought it took to write this note.

Wow...he's actually being held without bail? I figured Tim Harris would have plea bargained him out onto the streets already. I mean all he needs is a hug, ain't it Timmy?

They should have taken the car to Q. Tarantino's house, had some coffee (the gourmet s***), and then called The Wolf to help cover it up.

It is disheartening to read the comments here. The youth, both those of color and those in all parts of the city are in real trouble for a multitude of reasons. It isn't grist for the humor mill.

2nTulsa - Google 'teardrop tattoo' and check out the Wikipedia and/or Urban Dictionary listings. Apparently it can mean several different things.

The 'tear-drop' denotes the tears he sheds for someone that he has KILLED, and these little thugs wear it like a badge of honor. This punk looks 14 and probably has an even lower I.Q. Takes one cold-blooded, heartless person to shoot someone at point-blank range. Kudos to TPD for getting this menace off the streets...

It has several meanings.. one is the loss of family or friends. Some wear to indicate they have killed someone, and some prison gangs wear them too. Generally speaking its connected to bad news. Sounds like its appropriate here . Should have been home doing his homework instead of gangbanging. One less punk on the streets though!

slingshot: Yeah I've looked it up before (along with wondering why people hang tennis shoes from telephone wires), but it does seem there are several different meanings.
But, like Dwight said, it's never good news.
If there are any gangbangers reading this: Stop shooting each other! You are mostly teenagers or early twenties, and have no clue what you're doing in life. It's called "BEING A TEENAGER". You are not the first, or the last, to feel "lost" in life. It happens. You do not have to choose this route in life! You do not have anything to prove to anyone! If you feel you have no other place to go in life, consider joining the military for a few years. It will do wonders for you, and WILL make you grow up....FAST!
And, if you really feel the need to blast people away, rent Modern Warfare 2 and play the "No Russian" level!

I disagree with 2nTulsa. Gangbangers, please kill all of each other. Self elimination is the only way that we are going to be able to get rid of you. I would even be for giving you the guns if we could ensure that you would only continue to put each other down.

I feel like one of our senators needs to introduce legislation for a new law that requires any young offender age 18 or above, convicted of any crime other than one where rape or death occurs, be compelled to join the military for three years as part of their sentence.
Not just any military branch either, but the U.S. Marine Corps. That would be the biggest attitude adjustment they could receive, because if the Marines' D.I.s couldn't break them, nobody could.

fbi reports in the 90's, 90 percent of violent crime is related to drugs, users, sellers, robberies to get money for drugs, murders to kill people who can connect them to the big dealer.
some people on drugs do violent crimes.
a lot of times it is a random act to get money for drugs.
other cities have done a lot to try and change the
drive by shootings.
1. make sure everyone on parole is accounted for.
2. clean up neighborhoods.
3. if they are renting, make them move if they are bothering people.
4. some cities are putting all people on assistance in one area, it is working.
5. crime should be stopped. there are too many incidents in tulsa.
6. an incident may be a random act, it means nothing, who did the crime, their connections is
the answer, who, what, where, when and how.
7. motive, means, access.
is this man a gang member?

Not the kind of face you would tie to a murderer. He doesn't even look 18. These kids and young people killing each other should be greatly disturbing to us all. This man did not just destroy one person which was horriable enough, he destroyed a ton of others. The victims intire family will never be the same. All the victims friends. And his family, hes destroyed his own family and friends. So many lives are changed and devastated not just the kid in the picture and his victim. If it just stopped here it would be bad enough but I wish I could take you all behind the scenes. The funeral, the parents and the sisters and brothers. Then the horrific trial where pain is beyond your imagination. It doesn't end with this article, it only begins... So please people don't judge and make jokes but pray for the violence in our young people to come to an end and for a move of God that will somehow shake them and wake them up.
