PICHER — More than $135,000 in federal stimulus money originally meant for this dying town's housing authority remains held up as the authority explores what it could do with the money.

The Picher Housing Authority never sought the money, but the federal stimulus included money for every active housing authority in the country — even one in this toxic town with few remaining residents and no running water.

Only three of the authority's 54 units remain occupied, the authority's executive director said.

Members of the state's congressional delegation this summer asked the federal government to put a hold on the $135,494 in stimulus money for the authority.

Ignatz, they didn't request the money, it was included for all housing authorities if i read it right. would not surprise me if they did request it though.

Ignutz a bad place where all the people are suffering from ADHD. Picher a nice place where most of the people are pretty ethical didn't ask for the payment. It was awarded to them by the federal govt. Housing authority in Picher declined. IT SAYS THAT IN THE NEWS ITEM.
