The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Tulsa surprised the Salvation Army on Tuesday morning with a donation of 1,000 turkeys, just in time for the holidays.

"This is wonderful," said Arletta Robinson, executive director of the Salvation Army Center of Hope. She was pulled out a meeting to be greeted by Hard Rock and Cherokee Nation employees with balloons and a truck loaded with turkeys.

It's the largest turkey donation the Salvation Army has received. It should help feed about 4,000 people this Thanksgiving in food baskets and community dinners, Robinson said.

"It means an awful lot, because when a family is experiencing insecurity of any type - to have a traditional meal - you forget your problems for a little bit," she said.

Hard Rock is donating nearly 3,000 turkeys to regional nonprofit organizations this season, including Tulsa Boys Home, Iron Gate and some area food banks, said Jon Davidson, senior director of hospitality operations.

"We're proud to be a part of the Tulsa regional community," he said.
