Gifts sought for foster children

The Oklahoma Department of Human Services announced that it will be collecting gifts for 1,500 foster children in Tulsa County and 3,600 foster children in Oklahoma County.

The program, called "Christmas for Kids," benefits children who have been placed in foster homes, mostly because of abuse and neglect.

"In these tough economic times, we need your help more than ever because while the state pays for the daily needs of these children, no state funds are used to purchase their Christmas gifts," said Maura Browne, department volunteer coordinator.

According to a release, the department collects wish lists from foster children, allowing sponsors to buy what a child wants.

Individuals or groups who want to sponsor a child's wish list, donate gifts or contribute financially may call Browne at 706-1608 or e-mail Maura.Browne@okdhs.org. All gifts are tax deductible, and donors will be given wish lists until every child is sponsored. Gifts need to be delivered to the "Christmas for Kids" warehouse by Dec 16.

I agree AM, if you have all this extra money you should be helping others out as much as possible.
