Five people were arrested Thursday, including an Oklahoma City firefighter, on allegations of using, manufacturing and distributing anabolic steroids, authorities said.

Firefighter Sherry Smith, 39, was arrested on one of two warrants issued in Oklahoma City in connection with a two-year investigation into illegal steroid use, said Mark Woodward, Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs spokesman. Eight warrants were also issued in Tulsa and two in Wagoner County. Of those 12 warrants, five arrests were made by 9 p.m. Thursday, but the identities of the others arrested were not available, Woodward said.

Those arrested face various complaints, including misdemeanors of using anabolic steroids and felony charges of importation, manufacture and illegal distribution of steroids, he said.

Woodward said the individuals involved all share an interest in competitive bodybuilding, but aren’t linked to a particular gym or organization, and that more warrants and arrests are pending.

“This is far from over, but this is a very significant phase that we wrapped up today,” he said.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and Tulsa Police Department were also partners in Thursday’s operation.

Let me get this straight. This was a multi-agency effort for 2 years to bust this steroid ring, correct? Wow, way to use resources and man hours in a viable way. Freakin ridiculous.. Hey, how about focusing your efforts on the "meth heads" that blow up houses and apartment complexes. Even better, focusing on the increase in burglaries/home invasions. Is this suppose to be some major story? Unless the people that use this stuff starts turning green and say "hulk smash" then why don't these agencies focus on the crap that is rampant-- meth, robberies, etc,etc,etc...

Jake33,
It's all about money. Meth heads don't have money so they have nothing to give. It's a lot easier to shake down successful people who are actually doing something with their lives.

I can't believe it took more than 30 seconds to figure out she's a 'roid product. That physique can't be built without 'em.

Don't know if I'd be more scared of a fire or this firefighter. Either way, I don't consider steroid use even a fraction of the problem that meth is. What's next, a task force on jaywalking?

Great job task force. Thank you for using our tax dollars for a lower priority problem. Maybe using the Homeland Security Level color threat chart might help in going after real drugs that affect driving or operating machinery. Steroids is a real low priority unless they are juicing teenagers or kids. Go use the task force for the meth heads, the corrupted law enforcement agencies that participate in drug use and protect their informants. Now that would be tax dollars at work. Good Grief no wonder Oklahoma is rated in the forties in education. We have not learned how to prioritize what is important.
