Locust Grove man charged with rape

LOCUST GROVE — Prosecutors filed a rape charge Monday against a Locust Grove man who is accused of sexually assaulting an 81-year-old woman in her home.

Hank Daniel Clifton Montgomery, 35, of Locust Grove, faces counts of rape by instrumentation, forcible sodomy and robbery, said Becky Gore, Mayes County Assistant District Attorney. He is jailed in lieu of $750,000 bail, she said.

It is the second time in three months that a rape has been filed against Montgomery, who in February was charged with raping a 22-year-old woman in his residence, Gore said. He was out on bond when he allegedly committed his latest offense.

While walking along Oklahoma 82 in Locust Grove, Montgomery was arrested Friday in connection with the alleged elderly woman’s rape, which allegedly occurred May 5.

Telling the victim his vehicle had broken down and he needed to use her phone, Montgomery made his way into the woman’s residence, according to the Mayes County Sheriff’s Office. Once inside, Montgomery produced a knife and forced the victim into another part of the home, where she reportedly was sexually assaulted.

Montgomery reportedly escaped to a wooded area and later convinced a homeowner to drive him to a friend’s house.

Before being arrested, Montgomery was picked out of a lineup by the victim, the sheriff’s office said.

In the previous reported rape, the victim knew the defendant, Gore said.

Montgomery pleaded guilty in June 2005 to possession of paraphrenalia in Mayes County, records show. In Cherokee County in 2004, he received deferred sentences on charges that included marijuana possession and furnishing alcohol to a minor, documents indicate.
