SAINT LOUIS — The owners of a local gas station were found dead inside their home by their son Friday morning, and smoke inhalation may have killed them, officials said.

Robert “Bob” Gregg, 66, and Linda Greg, 62, were found about 7 a.m. When the couple’s adult son noticed the gas station wasn’t open for business, he went to the home and found their bodies inside, fire marshal spokeswoman JoAnne Sellars said.

The fire — thought to be accidental — was contained to the living room of the house, 45652 State Highway 59. Investigators think the Greggs were aware of the fire and were trying to escape the home, which is between Saint Louis and Maud, Sellars said.

When firefighters arrived, the fire had already extinguished itself after consuming all the oxygen in the home, Sellars said. An exact time of the fire was not known.
