Warmer, drier conditions expected

Much of Oklahoma will warm up and dry out over the next few days.

According to the National Weather Service, an upper-level ridge of high pressure over New Mexico will limit thunderstorm chances across Oklahoma until the weekend. The ridge is expected to weaken as storm systems approach.

In the meantime, temperatures will remain seasonable.

On Wednesday, skies were cloudy early on as showers and thunderstorms moved through the state. Temperatures ranged from 80 degrees in Durant in southeast Oklahoma to 92 degrees in Grandfield, Hooker and Tipton in the southwest.

The mercury peaked at 86 degrees in McAlester and Oklahoma City and reached 90 degrees in Altus, Bartlesville, Frederick, Gage, Guymon, Lawton, Stillwater and Tulsa.

Storms will be possible across far western Oklahoma and northern Texas, but otherwise, skies will be mostly sunny. Temperatures are expected to reach the 80s and 90s before dipping into the 60s Wednesday night, according to the weather service.

Skies will be generally clear on Thursday, allowing temperatures to reach the 90s.

By Friday, a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms will creep into the forecast for western Oklahoma and linger through Saturday. Temperatures should peak in the 90s both days and fall into the 60s and 70s Friday and Saturday nights, the weather service said.

On Sunday, skies are expected to turn partly cloudy and the slight chance for precipitation should shift into southeast Oklahoma. Highs should reach the 90s and lows in the 60s and 70s are possible, forecasters

said.
