Two arrested on charges of selling cigarettes stolen from Oklahoma company

LOWELL, Ark. — Two Benton County residents have been arrested on felony charges of selling cigarettes that were stolen from an Oklahoma tobacco company.
Arkansas Tobacco Control officials say 44-year-old Clifford Lee Burkett of Rogers and 30-year-old Marie Elizabeth Eubanks of Lowell were arrested Monday.
Officials say 107 cartons of cigarettes taken from Burkett's home are believed to be part of 4,020 cartons stolen from a semi-trailer owned by Pryor, Okla.-based Xcaliber International.
Another 52 cartons of cigarettes, 7,000 loose cigarettes and 23 pounds of tobacco were found in Eubanks' home and pickup truck.
Cigarette smuggling has become a concern in Arkansas since the state raised the excise tax by $5.60 per carton on March 1.

Pay-back time. When Oklahoma was a dry state we used to smuggle in booze from Arkansas.

They might have have saved a few people's lives by stealing their smokes. I read today that some people are growing their own tobacco on plots of land they own. They will still have to guard it at night, just like weed.
