Two motorists, including a man who didn’t stop when police tried to pull him over, were killed Wednesday in separate traffic accidents in Sequoyah and Haskell Counties.

Dead are Alberto Antonio Ramirez, 18, of Sallisaw and a 23-year-old whose name and hometown were not released Thursday.

A McCurtain police officer tried to pull over the 23-year-old on Oklahoma 31 in Kinta about 9:25 p.m., the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.

The driver didn’t stop, and his 1998 GMC pickup ran off the road and slammed into a parked tractor-trailer rig. The pickup rolled 1½ times onto its roof, troopers said.

The driver was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected. He was trapped in the wreckage for nearly two hours and died at the scene, the OHP reported.

About two hours before that crash, Ramirez was fatally injured in a rollover crash on a county road north of Muldrow in Sequoyah County.

Ramirez, a passenger in a 2001 Chevrolet Malibu, reached over and grabbed the steering wheel about 7:20 p.m., the driver told the Highway Patrol. The car crashed into a tree before veering back onto the road and rolling 1½ times, troopers said.

Ramirez, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected. He was flown to a Fort Smith, Ark., hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the OHP.

The driver, Felicia D. Nunn, 17, of Muldrow, was hospitalized with head and internal injuries. She had been wearing a seat belt, troopers reported.
