A Pryor man and a Mayes County deputy were injured after the vehicles they were driving collided as the deputy attempted to pass the other driver.

Mayes County Christopher Fogleman, 34, of Locust Grove, was driving a 2005 Ford Crown Victoria north on county road 435 about a mile east of Pryor, about 1 p.m. Sunday while heading to a “domestic in progress,” the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.

With his signals and sirens on, Fogleman attempted to pass a 1994 Ford Ranger driven by Robert Beattie, 35, of Pryor, the OHP said.

As the deputy passed, Beattie turned left into the path of the sheriff’s cruiser, troopers said.

Beattie was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa with head, arm, leg, trunk, and internal and external injuries, troopers said.

Fogleman was taken by private vehicle to a nearby hospital, where he was treated and released, troopers said.

A passenger in the Ford Ranger, Brock Beattie, 10, of Pryor, wasn’t injured in the collision.

Seat belts were being worn in both vehicles, the OHP said. Air bags were equipped and deployed in the deputy’s vehicle.
