Cleveland Co. traffic stop yields 50 pounds of pot
By Associated Press

NORMAN — Cleveland County deputies seized about 50 pounds of marijuana after stopping a sport utility vehicle along Interstate 35.
Sheriff Joe Lester says a deputy on routine patrol smelled marijuana after stopping the Ford SUV near I-35 and Indian Hills Road in north Norman on Tuesday.
Lester says deputies searched the vehicle after a drug dog alerted them to the smell of narcotics and discovered 50 "bricks" of marijuana.
Cleveland County prosecutors charged 35-year-old Valentin D. Tapia of Wichita, Kan., and 29-year-old Francisco A. Reyes with drug trafficking. Court records do not indicate if either has retained an attorney.

Driving while being Hispanic generally applies to having a tail light or tag light out.Now profiling is being in the wrong place at the right time.

In their defense, I think their intention was to take this stuff and make hemp sandals and sell them at flea markets. Uh...yeah...that's it.

"They were stopped for "Driving while Hispanic.""
Well, if it was profiling look at how effective profiling is.

" How many lives are we going to continue to ruin involving pot busts?"
Did WE twist their arms and force them to run drugs? How many lives are we going to ruin with DUI charges? I mean, heck, we are the land of the free and home of the brave, right? Shouldn't we be allowed to do as we dam well please?

Tell you what Bubba. How about we continue with DUI's and add driving under the influence of Pot along with Booze, legalize pot under the same guidelines as Booze and move onto something worth filling our prisons with. Like Child molesters, murderers, armed robbers. You know, the CRIMINALS in our society?

Every time I learn about another "pot" arrest, I'm reminded of the fact that Alcohol and tobacco are the major drug abuse problem in the US -- but both are legal. How many lives are we going to continue to ruin involving pot busts? How much more will our taxes rise to deal with pot busts? In "the land of hte free and the homw of the brave" -- how can pot busts be justified? This is a national disgrace. But, you, the voters, permit this to happen, so you are responsible for this on-going tragedy. Chris Rock has it right"if it's white (alcohol, tobacco) it's all right." If it's black (marijuana) it's a no no.

The police couldn't have stopped them without probable cause & giving them probable cause -- however minor -- was stupid. Jails are full of stupid people.

It is amusing that the issue is American citizens with Marijuana, lets be honest. It wasn't a matter of Race (Profiling) but as a matter of the debate is merely a matter whether the Law is Moral and Plato discussed that matter in his book "the Republic". But known facts as a Free Person, in America and as a Veteran of Wartime service, for this Nation, the issue of Legalized Marijuana consumption by any American, over the Legal age is just as beneficial, by Taxation than Higher Taxes on Cigarettes under the guise that it cost millions to Taxpayer because of Health Reasons and every American; regardless of Race, Color, Creed, National Origin, Age, Sex, Gender, Political affiliation, Religious association nor Sexual Orientation can not be discriminated against by Federals laws, as a basic Right, and protection under the 14th Amendment of the Us Constitution neither by any States that has ratified that Document, to achieve Statehood and access to Taxpayers dollars to run each state. The fact remains that the State of Maine is in violation of that Constitutional guarantee as presented above. Denying Citizen of this country the Privileges with all Entitlements and Legal recourse makes it as Criminal as Smoking Marijuana, in the Privacy of a Citizens home, so, long as they are 18 years of age. Alcohol does Brain damage, medical proven. Concerning the is issue Cigarettes, I am a Cigarette smoker and I would stop Smoking Cigarettes, with Marijuana legalized, but we are a Republic and our Elected Representatives determine what is legal or illegal by the creation of Laws as Bills in Congress and the Supreme Court decides whether it is Constitutional or not, thus the Law of the Land, in the United States of America. Bubba, while your intention is good the road to Hell is paved with Good Intention, the Action was the Problem. It is a moot subject as long as the US remains a Republic. et al.
