A Longtown man was killed Thursday morning when his motorcycle struck a deer that had wandered onto a Haskell County highway.

James Dodson, 67, was driving a 2005 Harley Davidson cycle through dense fog on Oklahoma 2 when he hit the animal just before 6 a.m., the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.

Troopers said Dodson was headed south on the two-lane highway southeast of Quinton and died at the scene from internal injuries.

He was wearing a helmet and there were no passengers on the motorcycle, the OHP reported.

My dad was driving on rural road on his bike and a log/piece of wood was in the middle of road. He tried to miss and it got stuck between frame and wheel. He flipped the bike forwards and landed in ditch. Luckly he did not get injuried too badly.

He ended up walking to the Bristow Wal-mart covered in mudd and smelling like garbage from standing water. On top of it he looks like grizzly adams...he said people was looking at him all crocked. Man I wish I could of seen their faces!! LOL =0)

That is one of my greatest fears, deers. I ride a lot in the country but try to avoid riding early in the morning or late evening/night for that very reason. And if it's not a deer it could be a possum, dog, cat, skunk or God forbid a armadillo.

My deepest sympathy to the family and friends.
