Seven indicted in federal drug sting in Cherokee County
By SHEILA STOGSDILL World Correspondent

MUSKOGEE — An early morning drug raid in three Cherokee County communities lead to the federal indictment of seven people on drug charges, the U.S. Attorney’s office said Thursday.
Indicted were Shaun Terrill Johnson, 25; Shannon Malcolm Johnson, 26; Lawrence Eugene Blue, 51 and John Henry Johnson, 66, all of Tahlequah.
Also indicted were Dave Ellis Wilson, 36, of Keys; Orlando L. Wilson, 28, of Fort Gibson and Jamie Lynn Mask, 38, of Hulbert.
All were indicted with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and distribution of controlled substances and drug forfeiture.
They are accused of possessing and distributing marijuana, methamphetamine, cocaine and crack cocaine from 2001 through Nov. 17.
The investigation centered upon a particular neighborhood in Tahlequah known as “the hill,” or “depot hill,” U.S. Attorney Sheldon Sperling said. Agents purchased about 90 grams of methamphetamine, seven grams of crack cocaine, six grams of cocaine and 160 grams of marijuana, he said.
The forfeiture count in the indictment seeks a money judgment of $655,000, or the value of drugs transacted, and forfeiture of the residences that were searched Thursday morning, Sperling said.

I am sure they lived 'high' on the hog in more ways than one for a long time - at least eight years.

When you go inside the numbers you see that a little can turn into a lot.
90 grams of meth; 3+ ounces for $4000 (?)
7 grams of crack; 1/4 ounce for $400 (?)
6 grams of cocaine; <1/4 ounce for $400 (?)
160 grams of marijuana; half pound for $600 (?)
That seems like about $5400 of drug money to get sued and jailed for $655,000.
Maybe those guys should try an honest living for a change.

Forfeiture of residences. More money for fringe funds. Which can't be used for any thing else?

Stimulus money at work.
Good job officers. I'm just sorry to see one of my buddies in that bunch. However, he knew better. He's been in prison before for the same thing.

i have never heard of "the hill" being referred to as depot hill. usually it involved a racial slur before the word hill,

The hill is located where there used to be a train depot. Bob Ed Culver owns the lot where the depot used to set. He finally had to bulldoze the depot for safety reasons. It's been known as Depot Hill for a very long, long time. But yes, it used to be called N Hill even by the people of color who lived there.

"Forfeiture of residences. More money for fringe funds. Which can't be used for any thing else?"
Exactly. This "War on Drugs" sure is making some cops rich. Coincidence? Doubtful. Funny how the proceeds are put into a drug seizure fund by cops who are later given "incentive bonuses" for their work. IOW, a lot of the drug money comes right back to the cops. Maybe that money should go into drug diversion and rehab programs instead.

I know one of the guys who went down this morning too.
I wonder though who really owns all those houses on The Hill. I think everyone who's lived in Tahlequah for any amount of time knows someone who lives up there. We've either gone to school with someone from there or played ball with them.
Seems like an awfully long surveillance .. 2001 til now.
From what they say, the cops went all out on the Tahlequah bust.

I really wonder if they have been watching them since 2001. More likely they had a informant in during that time.

Good breakdown JCash, the whole scheme used by the authorities in confiscating such a large amount or property has the smell of dead fish. The War on Drugs has failed miserably in every conceivable way.

Many of these agents are members of our community as well as federal agents. Whether or not the war on drugs has succeeded, they have succeeded in ridding our community of some of the drugs that could get into the hands of people we love. I applaud them and say thanks to them for their service and commitment to our community.
