Daily U.S. Casualties

Afghanistan: As of Monday, at least 820 members of the U.S. military had died in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Uzbekistan as a result of the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan in late 2001, according to the Defense Department.

The latest deaths reported by the military:

  • A U.S. service member died Sunday in a bombing in eastern Afghanistan.


  • A U.S. service member died Sunday of wounds suffered in an insurgent attack in eastern Afghanistan.


  • Seven U.S. service members died Monday in a helicopter crash in western Afghanistan.


  • Four U.S. service members died Monday in the collision of two hel- icopters in southern Afghanistan.


The latest identifications reported by the military:

  • Two soldiers died Friday in a roadside bombing in southern Afghanistan. They were Spc. Eric N. Lembke, 25, of Tampa, Fla., and Pfc. Kimble A. Han, 30, of Lehi, Utah. Both assigned to 569th Mobility Augmentation Company, 4th Engineer Battalion, Fort Carson, Colo.


Iraq: As of Monday, at least 4,351 members of the U.S. military had died in the Iraq war since it began in March 2003.

No new deaths or identifications were reported.

I'm beginning to agree with you hardball. It's too close to being like the Vietnam war to prevent the South Vietnamese from becoming communists. We know how that worked out, don't we?
