A Tulsa teacher who is charged with sex crimes involving a boy he mentored as a Big Brother is now also charged with possessing child pornography.

Tulsa County prosecutors on Wednesday added a count against John Gisler, alleging that he possessed images of child pornography on a computer found at his home, in the 300 block of South 44th West Avenue.

Gisler, 41, was charged July 6 with lewd molestation, forcible sodomy and second-degree rape involving a teenager whom he mentored through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma.

Gisler was arrested July 7. He was subsequently released upon posting bonds totaling $150,000 to cover the three original counts.

An arraignment on those matters was postponed Monday until Aug. 17 by Special Judge Millie Otey.

Another arrest warrant was issued because of the filing of the fourth felony count, and Gisler was booked back into the Tulsa Jail around 5:45 p.m. Wednesday.

An additional $100,000 bail requirement is set on the pornography count, records show. Gisler has been a science teacher at Whitney Middle School since August 2005.

In June, a 17-year-old boy told police that Gisler had been molesting him since he was 14.

According to police, the boy reported that the defendant initially paid him to masturbate by placing $2 to $5 in a jar for each act and that the abuse later evolved into other sex acts.

The boy said they watched pornography together on Gisler’s computer, an investigator’s affidavit states.

An official with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma recently said Gisler is no longer involved with the program.
