Ex-Owasso teacher gets prison in student assault
PLEA DEAL NETS FIVE-YEAR TERM
Doug Woolery:
The student, who was then 17, testified that Woolery got on top of him in bed, then removed the student's clothes and fondled his genitals when the two stayed in the same room at a hotel during a music convention in Tulsa. Unresolved charges in Oklahoma County involve accusations by the same student.

A former Owasso High School teacher was sentenced to five years in prison Tuesday for a sex crime against a student.
Doug Woolery, 40, pleaded guilty to a charge of sexual battery involving an Owasso High School student who was 17 at the time of the offense in January 2008.
In accordance with a plea agreement, Tulsa County Associate District Judge Dana Kuehn sentenced Woolery to a five-year prison term. Woolery, who had been free on bond, was jailed Tuesday.
At a preliminary hearing in March, the student said he and Woolery stayed in the same room at the downtown Crowne Plaza Hotel during a music convention in Tulsa.
The defendant got on top of him in bed, removed the student's pants and underwear and fondled the student's genitals, according to the teenager's testimony.
The teenager said at that hearing that he did not want this to happen and that he did not "initiate anything," but he indicated that he did not say no and did not tell Woolery to get off of him.
A police affidavit, filed when Woolery was charged Feb. 24, states that the victim reported that Woolery's actions "were unwanted and unsolicited and he was in shock and did not know what to do since the defendant was one of his instructors."
In March, the Owasso school board accepted Woolery's resignation. He taught vocal music and stagecraft and managed the school's Performing Arts Center.
He had been suspended in February after the allegations surfaced.
Woolery has unresolved charges of forcible sodomy and sexual battery in Oklahoma County involving accusations by the same student.
According to police, the teenager reported that while at a music convention in Oklahoma City in January 2008, he and Woolery shared a hotel room where those offenses are alleged to have occurred.

FIVE YEARS? So he can be free at 45 and start all over. What is wrong with these judges? I do not understand!

I think the judge gave him less time because of the age of the student 17 being close to the age of consent and did not say no. I think it would be a different story if it were a younger student. All the same anyone in authority should not be doing these things.

The student didnt say no or report it. Then went on another trip with the same teacher and stayed in the same room with him again. The student was asking for it the second time.

Five years, not enough time.
Judge Kuehn has run for re-election in a couple of years. She'll make appearance at some of the organization that I belong too. I'm going to ask her about this case, she may not comment but I'll ask anyway.

Oh My you cannot be shocked that someone said that. Really, if someone made unwanted sexual advances to you, did something you felt was rape, unwanted etc but you didn't say no or stop them, then you stayed in that person's room a 2nd time would you be shocked if that person did it again to you?.
to be bluntly honest if i made out with someone and felt her up and undressed her and we played around and she didn't say no and didn't stop me, then she stayed in a hotel room again, i would probably see that as consent once more.

but i'm not talking about someone underage here either. at 17 you cannot give legal consent to anything

It's not just that the student was underage, but that the teacher used his position of authority in such a way--5 years is not enough and this man should never, ever be allowed to get near a classroom again.

Yea the students actions in this case made this guy slippery. If ole boy had held out for jury reasonable doubt could be raised like a short skirt in a hurricane. The student didnt protest or tell the first time. Makes me think more like the student might have had a master plan for revenge hinging on other issues from the past. It's just too fishy. If it had been me I'm pretty sure I wouldn't go for Round two. Round one wouldn't show me staying five minutes past the first offense. Go to lobby and call 911 or whatever.

Why does a school from Owasso have to stay in a Tulsa hotel. Seems like a waste of school (tax payer) money to me. If they had went home at night this may have only happened once. Also, maybe the boy didn't say anything because he was embarrassed.

Quit blaming the student. The two-adult rule was obviously violated here. No adult should be alone with a minor ever. And only five years? Why are courts so lenient with molesters? They should never be allowed plea deals.

The fact that This dirtbag was in a position of authority over this student is what made it rape, same reason prison guards can`t have sex with prisoners.

From experience..........if you do not get "raped" and do not fight you feel partly responsible for what happens. I did not find out until I was in my 40's that something that happened to me at 11 years old was considered molestation! I did not fight it and felt guilty all of these years because it was a family member. I eventually grew to hate the cousin who did this to me even though I still felt guilty for not screaming or yelling.
Parents......teach your children that no matter how embarrassed they may be about something that makes them feel uncomfortable, tell an adult about it. Preferable someone who will help them to do the right thing. It is extremely embarrassing especially if the child may be wondering about their own sexuality. Experimenting is very common for teens and even pre-teens.
I knew this teacher for a couple of years when my son was in Men's Choir. I was completely blown away when he confessed to the offenses. (And I have been trained to recognize child abusers.) I still cannot believe how wrong I was. My son felt the same way.

the only bright light in this is that he will be registered as an offender, and he shouldn't be able to get a job at a school again.

You have to be sick Oklahoma you are a sex offender protecting State. Why is the rapist get off in child Molesters? Why Oklahoma you make me sick with this I review all these cases here in Oklahoma of children being rape. People Rape where they are to be safe jails. And public places schools Day cares churches. This is sad Oklahoma and the system don't do anything on the criminal side of the case# Well I advise for the boys Parents (SUE) the school for Damages and the School board as well. Because your child was victim of this sick crime. You will be Granted for the pain and suffering you and your family had to go threw. But I and other Victims that where rape while in public places in Oklahoma. Like jails prisons or work places or school, Places like that where you have became a rape victim in Oklahoma. By a person of the law. Or have power over you while you are in there welfare or custody. well you where in there Department of Corrections,Schools, Day care, work place. We have already started a partition in the State of Oklahoma that we can have some of the laws change when it comes to sex crimes in the State of Oklahoma. But the good thing is we are getting a lot of support of the Victims by rape in the State of Oklahoma are speaking out and making sure that we can prevent this from happening to other woman in children in this State. And I can't wait until justice will be served to all that wants to take the system and use it for your way of control and steal someones life away. With you sick sexual habits that need to be 6 foot under the dirt.
