BARTLESVILLE – A 31-year-old Bartlesville man will not be allowed to care for the elderly or children under a sentence imposed by a Washington County judge after he pleaded guilty to abusing patients at the former Silver Lake Care Center nursing home.

District Judge Curtis DeLapp issued a five-year prison term with two years to serve for Jason Lynn Pearl, who was arrested in March of abusing patients in his role as certified nursing assistant at the Silver Lake facility, a 92-bed home at 6006 S.E. Adams Blvd., which has since closed.

Pearl entered his plea on the earlier this month also waiving his right to trial.

In a sentence issued this week, DeLapp followed the recommendations of the District Attorney’s Office calling for two years of prison time and $1,150 in fines.

Additionally, DeLapp ordered Pearl to have a mental health evaluation and an alcohol and drug evaluation with follow-up treatment. He also imposed a condition that forbids Pearl from taking care of the elderly or any children upon his release from incarceration.

A police investigation into complaints about Pearl began Feb. 28 after family members of patients at the care center became concerned about allegations made by their loved ones.

During the police investigation, officers learned situations involving three patients at the nursing facility were videotaped on Pearl’s cell phone and had been seen by several witnesses before they were erased. The videotapes showed Pearl yelling at one elderly
patient and violently jerking the shirt of another, the affidavit stated.

Pearl admitted guilt in the incidents involving forcibly jerking a shirt off of one patient and screaming in the face of another. The District Attorney’s Office dismissed one count against Pearl that alleged he inappropriately touched a dementia patient and spit in the man’s face.
