Ada attorney, wife accused of embezzling
Ada women’s estates were supposed to benefit East Central University

ADA — A long-time Ada attorney and his wife are accused of embezzling money from deceased clients’ estates intended for East Central University.
David Leon Morris, 56, and Connie Jean Morris, 56, were charged Friday in Pontotoc County District Court with conspiracy and two counts of embezzlement. The couple are accused of embezzling $74,000 from the estate of Elizabeth Blakesley, who died in 1991.
The money was intended for East Central University. Instead, it was used to fund college tuition and books for the Morrises’ daughter and son-in-law, court records allege.
The two also are accused of stealing from the estate of Beatrice Mullins. Mullins left property for the university that the Morrises allowed friends to live in, Pottawatomie County Assistant District Attorney Russ Cochran said.

If the first one died in 1991, why did it take so long to find this out?

He needs to run for public office, he's quite qualified it appears! Tulsa needs a new mayor, the Rep and Dem candidates are flunkies. Move this guy up here, the mid-town Money belters will vote for him because like Taylor, they can curry favor from him! Do I hear a Lorton dialing his number right now???

Such good role models for their daughter and son in law. I guess they can become Wallyworld door greeters now.

You'd think someone who knows so much about the law could do a better job of not getting caught breaking that law. When it comes to who knows about your schemes, less is more. Perhaps someone p!ssed in the wrong bowl of Post Toasties?

Hmmm, Pre-Paid Legal is headquartered in Ada, perhaps Mr. Morris should avail himself of their services? After all, it is said that any attorney who represents himself has a fool for a client, lol.

The story on newsok indicates that the Oklahoma Bar Association filed a complaint against Mr. Morris in January 2007, and he relinquished his license to practice law in June 2008.

Hmmm...have you seen East Central University lately...maybe he was actually doing them a favor by keeping the money! ;)
Anyhoo...just another notch down in the public opinion of attorney's. I'm sure snakes everywhere are rejoicing!

The gravestone read - "Here lies an honest man and a fine lawyer". One man asked the other, do they bury them two to a grave in this cemetary?

Sounds like Mr. Morris just qualified himself to become a Washington politician right up there with the likes of William "cold cash" Jefferson from Louisiana and others. Is this the political "bar exam" or what?

OkieDad...
I have seen ECU recently also and its looking just fine. In fact they are about to finish a new fine arts building and have gone though several campus renovations. I'm proud to say that I graduated from there.
