Muskogee jury convicts man in stabbing

MUSKOGEE — A Muskogee County jury has convicted a man of first-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of his girlfriend.

The all-male panel deliberated less than 90 minutes Thursday before finding 20-year-old Enrique Pacheco guilty of the August 2007 death of Shelleigh PoorBear. Jurors recommended life in prison without the possibility of parole.

According to court records, Pacheco and PoorBear were trying to work out relationship problems when they checked into the Western Motel that night.

Muskogee police were notified by someone calling from Pacheco's home address that a knifing had occurred at a "cheap motel" on U.S. Highway 69.

Pacheco told jurors he remembered having a knife in his hand, but "blanked out" after that. By Associated Press
