Inhofe, Coburn amend, then vote against bill
By JIM MYERS World Washington Bureau

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Senate has approved a major spending bill that included amendments by Oklahoma's two senators, Republicans Jim Inhofe and Tom Coburn, to boost chat sales from the Tar Creek Superfund site and promote transparency.
Despite those amendments, both Inhofe and Coburn voted against the bill Thursday, citing spending issues.
Inhofe said his amendment is designed to help chat sales by the Quapaw Tribe by allowing contractors on federally funded road projects to apply double credit toward the Disadvantaged Business Enterprises requirement.
According to Coburn, his amendments would strengthen border security by targeting activities that restrict the government's efforts to enforce current laws on federal lands, publicize certain reports required by the bill, require competitive bidding on all grants and contracts, including earmarks, require all private property owners to be notified of a National Heritage Areas designation near their property and allow them to decide whether to opt out.
Also included in the bill is language pertaining to a buyout for the residents of Treece, Kan.
Inhofe said he worked with Kansas Republicans Sens. Pat Roberts and Sam Brownback on a buyout similar to the one he secured for Oklahomans in the Tar Creek area.

And these are your elected representatives!
Sounds to me like our boys--are voting strictly on party lines, instead of working for Oklahoma.
And that is SAD!

They place in and support amendments to a bill they voted against. Hypocrites, both of them. pander Oklahoma voters but, play politics and vote against what they support. And cry wolf about spending.
Tell us good, right Senators from Oklahoma, how much did the amendments you supported, and were approved, cost the American tax payers.
So why did you input such PORK that you are so much against? And why? Hypocritics!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Droopy, me too. There is nothing unusual about what was done here. Members of both houses will make amendments to bills that are designed to weaken a bill they don't like. People on the other side of the issue will agree to vote for the amendment in hopes of maybe bringing in some "Yes" votes they wouldn't have otherwise. When all the talking is over each member still has to vote his conscience.

I would think that a correction to this story would be in order. If any would care to read the public comments that were given at the public meeting for final approval of O U 4 at Picher you will discover that neither Senator secured the buyout for Picher. The ones that secured the buyout were the speakers at the public meeting. Those speakers rejected the final proposal that the EPA offered and would not be in favor of the poposal unless the EPA included a buyout in this proposal. You will also find in that public meeting statements of cover ups, violations of federal laws by EPA and their contractors, and the refusal of the EPA to apply permanent solutions as required and mandated by Congress and the President of the United States.

How perfect for them. They can tell their gullible constituents how hard they worked to get things done for the state, then vote against the bill and claim how they're holding in the reign on spending.
