Coburn makes power list:
Oklahomans may not feel the power of U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn when it comes to getting state projects, but outsiders think he has clout.
A poll of lawmakers, lobbyists, influence peddlers and others put the state's junior Republican senator on GQ's list of the 50 most powerful people in Washington. Coburn was No. 28.
Requesting absentee ballots:
Tulsans who want to cast absentee ballots in the Nov. 10 municipal general election have until 5 p.m. Nov. 4 to request them from the Tulsa County Election Board.
Applications for absentee ballots are available at the board's office, 555 N. Denver Ave., Tulsa OK 74103. Ballot requests may be mailed to that address or faxed to (918) 596-4536. The absentee ballot must be returned to the election board by 7 p.m. on election day.
In-person absentee voting will be available at the election board from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 6 and Nov. 9.
Mayoral debate:
The Kiwanis Club of Tulsa will be the host of a mayoral debate at noon Monday at First United Methodist Church, 1115 S. Boulder Ave. It will be moderated by John Durkee, a radio journalist.
More mayoral appearances:
Tulsa's mayoral candidates will appear at a forum set for 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 26 at Clinton Middle School, 2224 West 41st St. The sponsors are the Tulsa County News and the League of Women Voters.
Cable forum:
The Tulsa World, Cox Communications, Oklahoma State University-Tulsa and the League of Women Voters will be the hosts of a mayoral candidate forum from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 27 in the Atrium at Helmerich Advanced Technology Resource Center at OSU-Tulsa. It will be shown live on Cox cable channel 3.
Speaker:
Jim Hightower, a columnist whose work has appeared in the Tulsa World, will be the featured speaker at the Tulsa County Democratic Party's annual bean dinner at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the 907 Cafe, 907 S. Detroit Ave.
Tickets are $25. They are available at
tulsaworld.com/demnetwork
.
First Ladies luncheon:
Deborah Johns, the vice chairman of the political action committee that is sponsoring the Tea Party Express national bus tour, will be the featured speaker at the Oklahoma First Ladies Annual Fall Luncheon on Saturday at the Post Oak Lodge northwest of Tulsa. Call Linda McCurtain at 296-0036 for more information.
Cloud eyes Congress:
Corporation Commissioner Jeff Cloud is reportedly ready to seek the Fifth District seat in Congress left open by his fellow Republican Mary Fallin's run for governor. Cloud would join a GOP field that includes former state Rep. Kevin Calvey and current Rep. Mike Thompson.
Miller campaign committee:
Bob Sullivan of Tulsa has been named a co-chairman of the steering committee for state Rep. Ken Miller's campaign for state treasurer.
Sullivan, a former GOP gubernatorial candidate, will share duties with Clay Bennett, an Oklahoma City businessman.
Miller, an Edmond Republican, is the chairman of the House Appropriations and Budget Committee.
Also on the steering committee are Oklahoma State University-Tulsa President Howard Barnett, Don Millican of Tulsa's Kaiser-Francis Oil, BancFirst President David Rainbolt, Devon Energy CEO Larry Nichols and Chesapeake Corp. Senior Vice President Tom Ward.
Brinkley runs for Senate:
Rick Brinkley, the CEO of Tulsa's Better Business Bureau, is running as a Republican for state Senate in District 34, which includes most of northern Tulsa County and southwestern Rogers County. The seat is being vacated by Randy Brogdon, a Republican who is running for governor.
Brinkley, a former pastor, has a master's degree in Christian counseling from Oral Roberts University.

Wonder how the liberal;s in Oklahoma will play this one off. #28 most powerful peson in Washington. That put him way above most of the liberals that are there.
Thank you Tom Coburn for standing up for what is right and not following the masses behind the pied piper. Reasons like this keep getting you elected and keeps knots in the liberals stomachs.
