WASHINGTON — Here's how Oklahoma senators and House of Representatives members voted on key bills and amendments last week. A "Y" means the member voted for the measure; an "N" means the member voted against the measure; a "?" means the member did not vote.
HOUSE
Vote 1:
Veteran job retraining assistance: The House passed the Veterans Retraining Act (H.R. 1168), sponsored by Rep. John Boozman, R-Ark., to provide veterans with employment training assistance. The vote Monday was unanimous with 356 yeas.
Vote 2:
Assistance dogs for vets: The House passed a resolution (H.Res. 291), sponsored by Rep. Alcee Hastings, D-Fla., to recognize the role of assistance dogs in helping wounded veterans live more independent lives and expressing gratitude to the Tower of Hope, an organization that provides specially-trained assistance dogs to combat-wounded veterans at no cost. The vote Monday was unanimous with 351 yeas.
Vote 3:
Veterans medical center expansion: The House passed legislation (S. 509), sponsored by Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., to authorize the construction of a new multipurpose Outpatient Veterans Clinic at the Wainwright Memorial VA Medical Center in Walla Walla, Wash. The vote Monday was unanimous with 352 yeas.
Vote 4:
Veterans' protections legislation: The House passed the Veterans' Small Business Assistance and Servicemembers Protection Act (H.R. 3949), sponsored by Rep. Bob Filner, D-Calif., to make provisions for increasing educational opportunities
for servicemembers, stronger efforts nationally to support veterans, servicemembers and their families during deployment including greater flexibility for family cell phone plans, rental leases, and motor vehicle leases when servicemembers are deployed or required to change duty stations. The legislation also provides for the burial of an eligible parent of a deceased veteran to be buried in a VA national cemetery when the deceased veteran does not have an immediate spouse or child. The vote Tuesday was 382 yeas to 2 nays.
Vote 5:
Date adjustment for credit card reform bill: The House approved an amendment sponsored by Rep. Dan Maffei, D-N.Y., to the Expedited CARD Reform for Consumers Act (H.R. 3639), to make the bill effective immediately upon its enactment. The vote Wednesday was 251 yeas to 174 nays.
Vote 6:
Closures impacting credit scores: The House approved an amendment sponsored by Rep. Betty Sutton, D-Ohio, to the Expedited CARD Reform for Consumers Act (H.R.3639), to prevent a consumer's closure of a credit card account due to new fees from harming their credit score. The vote Wednesday was 353 yeas to 71 nays.
Vote 7:
Freezing credit card interest rates: The House approved an amendment sponsored by Rep. Betty Sutton, D-Ohio, to the Expedited CARD Reform for Consumers Act (H.R.3639) that would freeze the interest rates on existing credit card balances for nine months after the bill took effect. The vote Wednesday was 249 yeas to 173 nays.
Vote 8:
Unemployment benefits extended: The House passed the Senate-modified version of the Unemployment Compensation Extension Act (H.R. 3548), sponsored by Rep. Jim McDermott, D-Wash., to provide for extended unemployment benefits for those hit hardest by the recession. The vote Thursday was 403 yeas to 12 nays.
